Independent Reading Book

Dust jacket design +

OVERVIEW: For your final project on your Independent Reading Book, design a
new dust jacket (the detachable, protective outer cover of hardcover books) and
write a book review to reflect on what you’ve read this trimester – and on your
own reading tastes and preferences. See below for the project format and the
specific requirements of each project component. Refer back to the checklists
once your finish your project to ensure you meet all basic requirements.

Step 1: PROJECT FORMAT:

To create your dust jacket, fold a horizontal piece of computer/copy paper
in half. Illustrate the front cover (the book spine should be on the left-hand
side. You do NOT have to illustrate the back cover). Your design may not
resemble any jacket design available on the market. Be sure to include:

 OUTSIDE:
Title and author of book Book Review &
Dust Jacket
Main character (protagonist) illustration Star Rating

Items that indicate setting
CREATIVITY! Include any other symbols, characters, or items that
you think are important to the book!

Step 2:
On the inside of the folded dust jacket (both panels), write a book review
that includes your opinion of the positive and negative features of the book.
At the bottom of the review, draw four stars and color in your overall rating
of the book. Be sure to include and answer the following:
DUE

Title and author of book DATE:
Overall, did you like or dislike the book?
What did the author do well? (Identify at least two things)
