To test ETABS' static pushover case, I applied 1 kip dead load horizontally and 130 kips (in

compression) live load on a cantilevering column. When I checked pushover force-displacement

curve, either 130 kips doesn't contribute anything, or both loads increase simultaneously. Is there a
way increase horizontal load while keeping vertical load constant?

Dear HofOblivion,

If the column is modeled with frames, you have to assign a plastic hinge.
If axial force is constant a moment hinge will be enough, or use NL Links multilinear plastic, where
let's say M3 is nonlinear instead of frame.
If axial force varies a fiber hinge (not recommended) or a NMM interacting hinge (not
recommended) is required.

If using M3 hinge or NL link you can compute the Moment-Curvature nonlinear function for that
axial force using xtract or section designer. Multiply curvature with expected hinge length and so
you'll get Moment-Rotation.

Pushover is made of two nonlinear load case.

First case you fully load in force control the model with gravity in your case axial.
Second case which has to start from the first case, you incrementally load in displacement control
the model with a pattern up to a target displacement value monitored at a joint or generalized
displacement.

google for pushover sap2000 or etabs there are plenty of videos and pdfs.

Sap or etabs don't have fiber elements (nonlinear elements) for frames but they do have fiber
hinges (localized nonlinear) but those are not ok.
If you intend to do some heavy nonlinear analysis forget about sap and etabs and go for
seismostruct or perform or another.

I am doing pushover analysis of irregular building in Etabs. I have done all modeling aspects with
hinge assignments but i am not getting proper pushover curve. Please check my model & kindly
mention your valuable suggestions.

unning the model gives following error.

Please take a look. I think it should be corrected beforehand
As you know the statik analysis case has to run with no warning (to my experience) ( it ran with
warnings)
Also apply your hinges gradually, for example first to the joints which will deflect the most.
After you get these resolved , apply hinges to the new ones and solve again
That way at every step you know your model is working
Best regards and good luck
