Terms of volleyball:
Ace – when the ball is served to the other team and no one touches it.
Dig – when a player makes a save from a very difficult spike.
Spike – when a player jumps to strike the ball in a downward manner.
Roof – when a player jumps above the height of the net and blocks the ball.
Sideout – when the serving team makes a mistake and the ball goes to the other team.
Stuff – when a player jumps to block a spike and the ball goes back to the other side.
Bump- forearm pass.
Set- using your fingertips to pass the ball to a teammate.
Rules of volleyball:
A maximum of three hits per side are allowed.
A player may not hit the ball two consecutive times.
A player cannot block or attack a serve.
The ball can be played off the net during a volley.
A ball hitting the boundary line is good.
A legal hit is contact with the ball where the ball does not come to a complete rest.
Two players hitting the same ball (one play) cannot hit the ball after that hit.
A ball that hits the ceiling is considered out of bounds.
A ball that hits one of the poles is also out of bounds.
A point is scored when the team wins the volley.
Games are played to 15 but you must win by 2 points.
Violations in volleyball:
Stepping on or over the line on a serve.
Failure to serve the ball over the net.
Hitting the ball illegally (carrying, palming, throwing, etc.)
Contact with the net during a volley.
Reaching over the net to hit the ball.
Failure to rotate in a clockwise manner.
Serving in volleyball:
The server must serve from behind the restraining line.
The server must use one hand to properly serve the ball.
The ball can be served underhand or overhand.
The ball can hit the net during a serve.
The ball must land in bounds to be good.
Each game starts with a coin toss to decide which team will serve first.
