Threshold Concepts Assignment REVISED

The foundational concepts in English 1010 are threshold concepts. In part do to the fact

that in college you must pass a threshold in order to advance to the next level of learning. So in

part with each concept learned in English 1010 is in fact just one advancement in your learning.

This is necessary to tackle your learning in sections as if you take in everything at once it would

be far to much to comprehend. ​Thus schools, colleges, and universities split up the learning into

levels such as grades 1-12.

A threshold is a point. A position in an area. In learning it is each level of your learning career as

mentioned previously. You cross this threshold as you advance in your learning and cross your

academic goals. Alas, it takes hard work and determination to achieve such glory. With effort

you can advance your scholarly knowledge.

Features of a threshold concept include:

I. Troublesome Knowledge: a difficult piece of knowledge that takes time to understand

and grasp the ideal behind.

II. Transformative: Causes a change in the person's’ beliefs or idea behind knowledge over a

subject or ideal.

III. Integrative: To combine ideas and concepts together in a working manner.

IV. Bounded: To take measures to advance in your learning level.

 V. Irreversible: The knowledge that you gain will not be lost from you.

The above listed are the main features of a threshold concept. ​These concepts piece together to

form one main concept of thresholds. The threshold concept is useful for schooling and is

popularly used in colleges and universities. It is mainly used to help students and scholars
