Practical 3 : COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF AAC BLOCKS

REFERENCE
IS: 6441 (part 5) – Determination of compressive strength of AAC blocks.

OBJECTIVE

To determine the compressive strength of AAC blocks.

BACKGROUND
 Compressive strength is very important property of paver block as different types of
paver blocks are used for different work.
 It is essential to determine its compressive strength for given stock paver blocks.

APPARATUS
1. Compressive strength testing machine
2. Balance
3. Drying Oven
PROCEDURE:
1. SIZE OF SPECIMEN
1. Compressive strength shall be determined in cube with an edge length 15.
2. When the specimen are taken samples from the smaller thickness , cubes may be
built up, without gluing of two or three plane, ground square slices of thickness
7.5 cm and 5 cm respectively.
2. TESTING UNDER COMPRESSION LOAD:
1. Dimensions of pressure surface shall be measured with accuracy of±0.1 𝑚𝑚.
2. The cubes shall be placed in the compression machine and load applied
perpendicular to the direction of the slices from which the cubes thickness has
been built up.
3. For cubes which have been prepared in one pieces the direction of load shall be
perpendicular to the direction of rice of the mass during production.
4. The specimen shall be loaded at rate of 0.5 to 2 𝑘𝑔⁄𝑐𝑚2 in such a way that
failure occurs within 30 seconds.
