about in his song “ Redemption Song” has been the result of
socialization. How far do you agree with this statement? Discuss with
reference to the agents of socialization in any one Caribbean country.
3. Marx, Weber and Durkheim differ as regards the way that society is
structured, maintained and changes over time. Which, if any is most
relevant to an understanding of present day Caribbean society? Use any
Caribbean country (or countries) to illustrate.
4. Davis and Moore posit that, “ the education system is the process by
which the best qualified persons are selected for the most important jobs
in society." However, Bowles and Gjatis counter by saying, * the
education system is 2 means of perpetuating the social inequalities in
society.” Discuss the relevance of these statements to social mobility in
any Caribbean country with which you are familiar.
5. Given the features of contemporary Caribbean society, how useful is the
Plantation Society Model, or Plural Society Model in explaining these
characteristics. Reference is to be made to any Caribbean territory.6. The various family forms in the Caribbean pose a challenge to George
Peter Murdock’ s ideal nuclear family. There have been many
explanations put forward by sociologists and anthropologists for the
existence of these family forms. Discuss any two of these explanations
and state which one you think best explains the family forms in a
Caribbean country with which you are familiar.
