There is limited evidence on the effectiveness of ultrasound in

relieving the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Ebenbichler

et al reviewed a small group of patients and found the
treatment to be bene?cial in mild to moderate cases.
The
bene?t was observed symptomatically and con?rmed neurophysiologically
with nerve conduction studies. Oztas et al offer
a more cautious view.
Their study did not show a bene?t and
questioned the effect of ultrasound on an already damaged
nerve (their post-treatment nerve conduction studies showed
some reduction in function).
