 Dorsal medial lemniscus pathway

o 1* - posterior root ganglion up fasciculus gracilis (below

T6)/cuneatus (above T6)
o 2* - in medulla, gracile/cuneate nucleus decussate as internal
arcuate fibers and ascend medial lemniscus
o 3* - VPL of thalamus through post limb of internal capsule thorugh
corona radiate to somatosensory cortex
 Sections
o Coronal through rostral telencephalon
 At decussation of ant commissure
 Head of caudate nucleus, ant limb of internal capsule,
globus pallidus and putamen, corpus callosum above lat
ventricles, below is optic chiasm
o Coronal through midbrain-diencephalon junction
 Thalamus surrounds third ventricle, post limb of int capsule
separates thalamus from globus pallidus/putamen, lateral to
putamen is insula, dorsomedial is corpus callosum which
overlies lateral ventricles, below third ventricle is red
nucleus/substantia nigra/crus cerebri
o Section through midbrain
 Tectum (superior colliculi), periaqueductal gray, red nuclei,
substantia nigra, cerebral peduncles
o Transverse through pons
 Fourth ventricle, pons tegmentum (incl abducens nuclei),
corticofugal fibers, pontine nuclei, middle cerebellar
peduncles
o Transverse through medulla
 Fourth ventricle, hypoglossal nucleus, inf cerebellar
peduncle, inf olivary complex, pyramids
