BMW - Success doing e36 EWS alignment with INPA

I have DIS v44 installed and I've done lots of EWS alignmeets with that but DIS
takes a long time to boot up and the interface is kind of clunky. INPA boots up
quickly and it's very easy to use. I've searched off and on for a couple years
looking for a step by step tutorial to use INPA to align a replacement DME to the
EWS2 system in my e36. I've asked a couple times and never gotten a straight
answer. Today I tried experimenting with a spare DME I have. I finally got the
steps to work.

Car: 1997 328i vert

INPA Installed on Dell D620

ADS interface from the Tiny ADS Interface thread here

Replacement DME from a 98 328i sedan

Before you start it's a good idea to connect your laptop to a charger and connect
your car battery to a charger.

1) boot up laptop and start INPA

2) turn off ignition

3) install replacement DME and connect your ADS interface to the 20 pin diagnostic
port

4) turn on ignition

5) go to INPA and select the e36 screen.

6) use the down arrow or mouse to highlight ENGINE in the left pop up window

7) press the TAB key and use the down button or mouse to highlight the correct DME.
In this case it's "m52 US with OBDII" Press Enter

8) The ENGINE screen should pop up. Press f3 to open the CODING screen

9) scroll down till you find the listing for the ISN number. Copy that number down.
It's case sensitive. If it's 74d don't copy 76D

10) press f10 to back out to the main INPA screen

11) select the e36 screen again

12) use the down arrow or mouse to highlight BODY

13) press the TAB key and use the down arrow or mouse to highlight EWS. Press ENTER

14) press f6 to open the CODING screen

15) press f1 to open the ACTIVATE screen. You'll see a number highlighted. It will
be in the format of 0x11g. Erase it.

16) type in your ISN using that format. If it's 76d type 0x76d or just type 76d
without the 0x. Both worked for me. Press ENTER
17) turn off the ignition for 15 seconds this step,is critical. You MUST reset the
system.

Your car should start
