Discussion Problem #8

Not to be turned in.

1. An amplifier is needed in the circuit shown below. The requirement is that Rin = 10 MΩ and
that Rout be << 2 kΩ although the exact value of Rout is not critical.

The only amplifier available for use for this application is the amplifier shown below. Negative
feedback around the amplifier is to be used to meet the application requirements.

The open loop amplifier (without feedback circuit loading) can be modeled as having an input
resistance Rid = 50 kΩ, Ro = 880 Ω, and unloaded voltage gain of Av = 11,000.
1. Specify the type of negative feedback to be used, i.e. shunt-series etc.

2. Sketch the feedback circuit complete with numerical values and indicate where it connects
into the open loop amplifier shown above (not the equivalent circuit).

3. Determine the closed loop gain Vo/Vs and output resistance Rout. Assume the feedback
network does not load the open loop amplifier.

4. Justify the assumption in step #3 that the feedback network does not load the open loop
amplifier.

2. Consider the negative feedback amplifier shown below.
