1. After launching STAAD(X) Tower, select New from the Start ribbon tab.
The STAAD(X) Tower dialog appears.
2. Select Monopole as the type of tower, then click Next >.
The Setup Wizard dialog appears.
3. Click Next > to proceed to the Tower Properties page.
4. Input the following into the Tower Properties page:
Country Code US
Number of Sections 4
1 34 4.25 0.1875
2 34 5.5 0.25
3 34 6.25 0.3125
4 34 0 0.375
Tip: The length for Section ID 4 will automatically adjust according to the other lengths and lap
splice values; therefore, enter the first three lengths and the lap splices first. The fourth section
will automatically become 34 ft.
Note: The thickness column will automatically round your values to two decimal places.
Tip: You can further edit the tower by looking in the Tower Model Explorer pane and expanding
Physical Model > Objects > Sections . Clicking on each section will show its properties in the
Properties pane where edits can be made.
8. In the Model ribbon tab click the Save tool.
Your work so far has been saved. You may be prompted to save the file in a destination of your choice.
Adding Components
Elevation 118 ft
No of T-Arms 3
3. Under the Components ribbon tab click the Pipe/Dish Mount tool.
A new Mount 2 appears in the Tower Model Explorer pane, a pipe mount appears on the model in the
View pane, and its properties appear in the Properties pane.
4. In the Properties pane change the Elevation to 110 ft.
5. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Mount 2 and click on Mount Pipe 7.
More of the pipe mount's properties appear in the Properties pane.
6. In the Properties pane, change the Orientation to Leg C.
7. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Mount Pipe 7 and click on Antenna 7-Panel.
The antenna's properties appear in the Properties pane.
8. Input the following into the Properties pane:
The pipe mount on the model is changed to a dish mount in the View pane, and Antenna 7-panel is
changed to Antenna 7-dish in the Tower Model Explorer pane.
9. Under the Components ribbon tab, click the Feedlines tool.
A new Feedline 1 appears in the Tower Model Explorer pane, a feedline appears on the model in the View
pane, and its properties appear in the Properties pane.
10. Input the following into the Properties pane:
Start Height 2 ft
Your work so far has been saved. You may be prompted to save the file in a destination of your choice.
Adding Loads
1. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Physical Model > Loads , then right click on the Load
Generation Parameters folder and select Add Wind/Ice Parameters from the pop-up menu then TIA/
EIA[222F] Definition from its pop-up menu.
A new TIA/EIA[222F] Load Def. 1 appears in the Tower Model Explorer pane and its properties appear
in the Properties pane.
2. Input the following into the Properties pane:
State Alabama
County Coffee
Note: Wind speed and ice thickness have been automatically updated to reflect the inputted
location.
Check the box next to Ice Load, then expand the Load Cases drop-down menu and check the boxes next
to all of the load cases.
The nine new load cases have been added as Load Groups 2 through 10 in the Tower Model Explorer
pane.
3. Expand each of the new load groups, then right click on each of the wind/ice loads and select Assign from
their pop-up menus, respectively.
The white boxes next to the wind/ice loads will turn green once they have been assigned and you will see
the loads applied in the View pane, respectively. The new loads have been assigned to the entire structure.
Note: Three new load groups will appear as Load Groups 11 through 13.
4. In the Model ribbon tab click the Save tool.
Your work so far has been saved. You may be prompted to save the file in a destination of your choice.
1. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Whole Model > Load Cases , then right click the
Primary folder and select Primary Load Case Generator from the pop-up menu.
The Primary Load Case Generator dialog appears.
2. In the Primary Load Case Generator dialog, check the following options:
Click OK. The six new primary load cases have been added as Primary LoadCases 1 through 6 in the
Tower Model Explorer pane.
3. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Whole Model > Load Cases , then right click the
Primary folder and select Add Primary Load Case from the pop-up menu.
A new Primary LoadCase 7 appears in the Tower Model Explorer pane and the load case editor appears
in the Properties pane.
4. In the Properties pane click the drop-down menu next to Load Group Type and check Select All.
The load groups appear in the Properties pane.
5. Click 1:Load Group 1, input 1.2 as the Factor, then click Add.
The load group with its assigned factor appears in the Properties pane under Selected Load Groups.
6. Click 2:Load Group 2, input 1.6 as the Factor, then click Add.
The load group with its assigned factor appears in the Properties pane under Selected Load Groups.
7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 to create the following primary load cases:
The three new load cases have been added as Primary LoadCases 8 through 10 in the Tower Model
Explorer pane.
8. In the Model ribbon tab click the Run Analysis tool.
The analysis results for a 1st order analysis method appear in the Output pane.
Note: You may be asked to save file in a destination of your choice prior to analysis.
Note: At least one primary load case must be defined in order to perform an analysis.
9. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis then click the Whole Model folder.
The analysis options for the whole model appear in the Properties pane.
10. In the Properties pane select P-Delta Analysis as the Method then select Default as the Analysis Options.
11. In the Model ribbon tab click the Run Analysis tool.
The analysis results for the new method appear in the Output pane.
12. In the Model ribbon tab click the Check Code tool.
The code check operations appear in the Output pane.
1. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Whole Model > Results > Displacement Results ,
then click the Node Displacements folder.
The node displacement table appears in the Output pane.
2. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Whole Model > Results > Displacement Results >
Deflected Profile , then click the Horizontal Deflection folder.
The horizontal deflection graph appears in the Properties pane.
3. In the Results ribbon tab select Primary LoadCase 2 from the drop-down menu.
The horizontal deflection graph for the selected primary load case appears in the Properties pane.
4. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Whole Model > Results > Force Results > Linear
Members , then click on the Member End Forces folder.
The member end force table appears in the Output pane.
5. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Results > Force Results > Linear Members , then
click the Forces/Displacements folder.

In the Model ribbon tab click the Select Physical Member icon then click on any member of the
model in the View pane.
The Results: Physical Member dialog appears and the properties appear in the Properties pane for the
member you selected.
7. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Whole Model > Results > Force Results > Linear
Members , then click the Member Force Graphs folder and then on a physical member in the View pane.
The member force graph for the member you selected appears in the Output pane.
8. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Whole Model > Results > Force Results > Leg
Compression Curves , then click on the Leg A folder.
A diagram of the axial compression along Leg A's height appears in the Properties pane.
9. In the Results ribbon tab click the Axial Force, Shear Y Force, Shear Z Force, Torsion, Bending
Moment Y, Bending Moment Z, Displacement, Beam Stress, and Support Reaction tools one at a time.
They will become highlighted.
The diagrams for each highlighted option will appear in the View pane, respectively.
Tip: The force diagrams in the View pane can be turned off by clicking the respective tools again,
unhighlighting them.
Note: All of the force values can be viewed simultaneously in a table by going to the Tower
Model Explorer pane and expanding Analysis > Whole Model > Results > Reaction Results ,
then clicking on the Reactions folder. The support reactions table appears in the Output pane.
10. In the Results ribbon tab select Primary LoadCase 5 from the drop-down menu, then highlight the Axial
Force tool and the Displacement tool.
The force and displacement diagrams appear on the model in the View pane.
Note: All forces shown in the View pane are for the primary load case that is selected in the
Results ribbon tab.
11. Click the Report ribbon tab.
The Report Document Map and Selected Item List panes replace the previous panes.
12. In the Report Document Map pane expand Reports > Input Data , then click and drag the Analytical
section-wise Pressure and Force item into the Selected Item List pane, as well as the Reference Load
Cases item.
Tip: While hovering in the Selected Item List pane, a red line appears to indicate where the item
will be placed.
Tip: Items in the Selected Item List pane can be rearranged by clicking and dragging them into a
new position.
13.
Click on the Generate Report icon in the Selected Item List pane.
A report including data from your item appears in the View pane.
14. In the Model ribbon tab click the Save tool.
The Save Template dialog appears.
15. Type mon_tower1 report as the Template Name:, then click OK.
1. After launching STAAD(X) Tower, select New from the Start ribbon tab.
The STAAD(X) Tower dialog appears.
2. Select Monopole as the type of tower, then click Next >.
The Setup Wizard dialog appears.
3. Click Next > to proceed to the Tower Properties page.
4. Input the following into the Tower Properties page:

Number of Sections 4

3 10 1.25 6

Tip: The length for Section ID 4 will automatically adjust according to the other lengths and lap
splice values; therefore, enter the first three lengths and the lap splices first. The fourth section
will automatically become 12.5 m.
Note: The thickness column will automatically round your values to two decimal places. The
thickness column will calculate the thickness for intermediate sections based on the linear
interpolation of the thicknesses defined for top and bottom sections. You can edit the thickness
as per the required information.
Tip: You can further edit the tower by looking in the Tower Model Explorer pane and expanding
Physical Model > Objects > Sections . Clicking on each section will show its properties in the
Properties pane where edits can be made.
8. In the Model ribbon tab click the Save tool.
Your work so far has been saved. You may be prompted to save the file in a destination of your choice.
Adding Components
1. In the Components ribbon tab click the Low Profile Platform tool.
A new Mount 1 appears in the Tower Model Explorer pane, the mount appears on the model in the View
pane, and the its properties appear in the Properties pane.
2. In the Properties pane input 38 m as the Elevation.
3. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Mount 1 then click Low Profile Platform 38m.
The low profile platform's properties appear in the Properties pane.
4. Input the following into the Properties pane:
Width of Platform 3 m
Orientation Leg A
Vertical 33.00 mm
9. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Mount Pipe 11 and click on Antenna 11-Panel.
The antenna's properties appear in the Properties pane.
10. Input the Following into the Properties pane:
The panel antenna on the model is changed to a dish antenna in the View pane, and Antenna 11-Panel
changes to Antenna 11-Dish in the Tower Model Explorer pane.
11. In the Components ribbon tab click the Feedlines tool.
A new FeedLine 1 appears in the Tower Model Explorer pane, a feedline appears on the model in the
View pane, and its properties appear in the Properties pane.
12. Input the following into the Properties pane:
Start Height 1 m
End Height 33 m
Adding Loads
1. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Physical Model > Loads then right click on the Load
Generation Parameters folder and select Add Wind/Ice Parameters from the pop-up menu then TIA/
EIA[222G] Definition from its pop-up menu.

Note: Wind speed and gust factor have been automatically updated to reflect the inputted
location.
Structure Classification C
Expand the Load Cases drop-down menu and check the boxes next to all of the load cases.
The nine new load cases have been added as Load Groups 2 through 10 in the Tower Model Explorer
pane.

In the Model ribbon tab click the Select Physical Member icon then click on any physical member on
the tower in the View pane.
The Results: Physical Member dialog appears and the properties appear in the Properties pane for the
member you selected.
7. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Whole Model > Results > Force Results > Linear
Members , then click the Member Force Graphs folder and then on a physical member in the View pane.
The member force graph for the member you selected appears in the Output pane.
8. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Whole Model > Results > Force Results > Leg
Compression Curves , then click on the Leg A folder.
A diagram of the axial compression along Leg A's height appears in the Properties pane.
9. In the Results ribbon tab click the Axial Force, Shear Y Force, Shear Z Force, Torsion, Bending
Moment Y, Bending Moment Z, Displacement, Beam Stress, and Support Reaction tools one at a time.
They will become highlighted.
The diagrams for each highlighted option will appear in the View pane, respectively.
Tip: The force diagrams in the View pane can be turned off by clicking the respective tools,
unhighlighting them.
Note: All of the force values can be viewed simultaneously in a table by going to the Tower
Model Explorer pane and expanding Analysis > Whole Model > Results > Reaction Results ,
then clicking on the Reactions folder. The support reactions table appears in the Output pane.
10. In the Results ribbon tab select Primary LoadCase 5 from the drop-down menu, then highlight the Axial
Force tool and the Displacement tool.
The force and displacement diagrams appear on the model in the View pane.
Note: All forces shown in the View pane are for the primary load case that is selected in the
Results ribbon tab.
11. Click the Report ribbon tab.
The Report Document Map and Selected Item List panes replace the previous panes.
12. In the Report Document Map pane expand Reports > Input Data , then click and drag the Analytical
section-wise Pressure and Force item into the Selected Item List pane, as well as the Reference Load
Cases item.
Tip: While hovering in the Selected Item List pane, a red line appears to indicate where the item
will be placed.
Tip: Items in the Selected Item List pane can be rearranged by clicking and dragging them into a
new position.

Click on the Generate Report icon in the Selected Item List pane.
A report including data from your item appears in the View pane.
1. After launching STAAD(X) Tower, select New from the Start ribbon tab.
The STAAD(X) Tower dialog appears.
2. Select Self-Supporting as the type of tower, then click Next >.
The Setup Wizard dialog appears.

from their pop-up menus, respectively.
The white boxes next to the wind/ice loads will turn green once they have been assigned and you will see
the loads applied in the View pane, respectively. The new loads have been assigned to the entire structure.
4. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Physical Model > Loads > Load Groups , then right click the
Load Group 1 folder and select Joint Load from the pop-up menu then Add Joint Load from its pop-up
menu.
A new Joint Load appears in the Tower Model Explorer pane and its properties appear in the Properties
pane.
5. In the Properties pane enter -1 kip for Fy.
6. In the Model ribbon tab click the Select Nodes icon and then select the top four nodes on the model in the
View pane.
7. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Physical Model > Loads > Load Group 1 then right click
Joint Load and select Assign from its pop-up menu.
The load group has been assigned to the nodes you selected.

4. In the Properties pane click the drop-down menu next to Load Group Type and check Select All.
The load groups appear in the Properties pane.
5. Click 1:Load Group 1, input 1.2 as the Factor, then click Add.
The load group with its assigned factor appears in the Properties pane under Selected Load Groups.
6. Click 2:Load Group 2, input 1.6 as the Factor, then click Add.
The load group with its assigned factor appears in the Properties pane under Selected Load Groups.

on the Supports folder. You can add the type of support desired by selecting it from the pop-up menu.
The restraint options for the support selected appear in the Properties pane and can be edited.
Note: For this model, a fixed support was assigned in the Setup Wizard and can be seen if the
Supports folder is expanded.
14. In the Model ribbon tab click the Save tool.
Your work so far has been saved. You may be prompted to save the file in a destination of your choice.
1. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Physical Model > Loads , then right click on the Load
Generation Parameters folder and select Add Wind/Ice Parameters from the pop-up menu then IS:875
Definition from its pop-up menu.
A new Wind/Ice Load Def.(IS:875):1 appears in the Tower Model Explorer pane and its properties
appear in the Properties pane.
2. In the Properties pane select Almora as the City/Town.
Note: Wind speed and gust factor have been automatically updated to reflect the inputted
location.

Expand the Load Cases drop-down menu and check the boxes next to all of the load cases.
The nine new load cases have been added as Load Groups 2 through 10 in the Tower Model Explorer
pane.
3. Expand each of the new Load Groups, then right click on each of their wind/ice loads and select Assign
from their pop-up menus, respectively.
The white boxes next to the wind/ice loads will turn green once they have been assigned. The new loads
have been assigned to the entire structure.
4. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Physical Model > Loads > Load Groups , then right click the
Load Group 1 folder and select Joint Load from the pop-up menu then Add Joint Load from its pop-up
menu.
A new Joint Load appears in the Tower Model Explorer pane and its properties appear in the Properties
pane.
5. In the Properties pane enter -1 kip for Fy.
6. In the Model ribbon tab click the Select Nodes icon and then select the top four nodes on the model in the
View pane.
7. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Physical Model > Loads > Load Group 1 then right click
Joint Load and select Assign from its pop-up menu.
The load group has been assigned to the nodes you selected.
8. In the Model ribbon tab click the Save tool.

1. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis > Whole Model > Load Cases , then right click the
Primary folder and select Add Primary Load Case from the pop-up menu.
A new Primary LoadCase 1 appears in the Tower Model Explorer pane and the load case editor appears
in the Properties pane.
2. In the Properties pane click the drop-down menu next to Load Group Type and check Select All.
The load groups appear in the Properties pane.
3. Click 1:Load Group 1, input 1.2 as the Factor, then click Add.
The load group with its assigned factor appears in the Properties pane under Selected Load Groups.
4. Click 2:Load Group 2, input 1.6 as the Factor, then click Add.
The load group with its assigned factor appears in the Properties pane under Selected Load Groups.
5. Repeat steps 3 through 6 to create the following primary load cases:
The three new load cases have been added as Primary LoadCases 8 through 10 in the Tower Model
Explorer pane.
6. In the Model ribbon tab click the Run Analysis tool.
The analysis results for a 1st order analysis method appear in the Output pane.
Note: You may be asked to save file in a destination of your choice prior to analysis.
Note: At least one primary load case must be defined in order to perform an analysis.
7. In the Tower Model Explorer pane expand Analysis then click the Whole Model folder.
The analysis options for the whole model appear in the Properties pane.
8. In the Properties pane select P-Delta Analysis as the Method then select Default as the Analysis Options.
9. In the Model ribbon tab click the Run Analysis tool.
The analysis results for the new method appear in the Output pane.
10. In the Model ribbon tab click the Check Code tool.
The code check operations appear in the Output pane.
1. In the Model ribbon tab select IS 802,806 as the Active Design Code.
2. In the Model ribbon tab click the Check Slenderness tool.
Any members which do not meet slenderness criteria per the selected code appear in the Output pane.
Tip: Selecting an entry in the Output pane will highlight the correlating member in the View pane.
3. In the Results ribbon tab click the Show All Results tool.
The design results appear in the Output pane. Members that have failed the design check are highlighted in
the View pane.
4. In the Results ribbon tab click the Show Selective Result tool then select any physical member.
Design results for the selected physical member appear in the Output pane.
5. Click the Report ribbon tab.
The Report Document Map and Selected Item List panes replace the previous panes.
6. In the Report Document Map pane expand Reports > Input Data , then click and drag the Section
Information item into the Selected Item List pane, as well as the Member Specification item.
Tip: While hovering in the Selected Item List pane, a red line appears to indicate where the item
will be placed.
Tip: Items in the Selected Item List pane can be rearranged by clicking and dragging them into a
new position.
7.
Click on the Generate Report icon in the Selected Item List pane.
A report including data from your item appears in the View pane.
