EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN ECUADOR AND USA

DESCRIPTION

High schools of Ecuador and the United States have a programme so-called
“extracurricular activities” where students have to course and pass it. This essay compares
programmes in the United States and Ecuador. Students have the opportunity to choose
an option that they are interested in. While in Ecuador some of them are about traffic
rules, environment, or sports, etc., in the United States students can be involved in groups
of cheerleaders, theater, etc. Additionally, extracurricular activities are mandatory, so
students will obtain their bachelors degree.

COMPARISON

On the one hand, high school teachers and students work each other in this kind
of programme in Ecuador. In traffic rules, teachers raise awareness students about the
importance of being good drivers and pedestrians. The main objective is to avoid
accidents in Ecuadorian streets. They put on vests and whistles and practice in the streets
of a town. Another activity is about environment education where students learn how to
protect the nature and devote cleaning some places, do campaigns to teach people and
avoid pollution, also the students have to wear: boots, gloves etc.

On the other hand, in the United States there are other activities such as the group
of cheerleaders, they wear short uniforms and they participate in competitions held in all
schools. There are also other groups, such as theater group, there they can learn to act or
be part of production team, directed by teachers. The band is another option, to show
skills and improve talents. Another option is the group of journalism which gives to
critical, intelligent teenagers, the opportunity to be the editors of a newspaper.

REFLECTION
In conclusion, I drew attention to how schools in both countries have tried to
provide their students with different alternatives of learning, I believe that these
differences are due to both countries have different and American young are more
advanced in technological aspects than Ecuadorian ones. I think if American people
visit Ecuador will be impressed with the extracurricular activities held here, because
despite being a small country, we care about our environment, community and health.
