Type of Sound Non Diegetic or Diegetic Purpose of Sound
Sound Voiceover Non-Diegetic This was used to tell the story of our protagonist Amirah. It signifies her story to the audience as it’s as if she is reading her thoughts out loud allowing the audience to sympathise with her.
Heart beat Non-diegetic This sound is used to
reflect back to the build- up of her walking towards the edge of the platform. The sound itself triggers tension for the audience as this builds the climax of our film. Sound of a Punch Non-diegetic This sound was used when Jesse viciously punched Amirah in the face as a result of her slapping him in the first place. The punch symbolises the idea that he was the dominant person in the relationship which conforms to the idea that society being patriarchal. Deep breathing Non-diegetic This was used to reflect back to the situation Amirah is facing where she is at a train station debating whether she should end her life or not. Soundtrack: Despair and Non-diegetic This sound was used to Triumph help set the mood as Amirah is narrating to the audience her personal life, so this soundtrack was suitable to use in our film as it helped us tell her story through the use of this emotional music. Birds chirping Non-diegetic This was used at the beginning of the film when Amirah was at the park sitting down reading a book. This helped us to set the scene as this particular sound effect creates a calm and peaceful mood for the film. Walking up the stairs Non-diegetic This was used when Amirah walks up the stairs to go to her room, which then build up to the scene where Jesse is in bed with another woman. Phone typing Non-diegetic This sound was used in the scene where we see Amirah and Jesse endlessly sending each other text messages making us understand that their relationship has got off to a good start showing that they can’t live without talking to one another. Emergency call handler Non-diegetic This sound effect was implemented when she jumps of the platform making the situation much worse as chaos has struck ending the film in a negative light. People screaming Non-diegetic This leads to when Amirah jumps off the platform committing suicide. As a result, this would relate back to the scenario making the situation seem very hectic. This sound effect creates a sense of chaos as this shows what people do in these situation.
