Running Head: INDIGENOUS RESOURCE LIST FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS 1

Education 530 S13: Indigenous Education

Artefact: Resource List

Introduction:

One of the main concern we had as a group was: where would we find the resources to
include in Indigenous content or pedagogy? To elaborate, a mandatory inclusion of Indigenous
content or pedagogy is a new practice in schools in Alberta, and as new teachers it will be
difficult to find resources that are free of misconceptions or biases. In order to move forward,
we have compiled a resource list that we as teachers can use in our own classrooms. The list
entails multimodal resources targeting diverse age groups. Moreover, we have included some
articles that we found that would benefit teachers to get a more in depth understanding of
Indigenous pedagogy and its applicability. Each source is organized according to its audience
and includes a description that will help others easily navigate through the list.

Conclusion

Although we have checked the credibility of these resources, teachers should

ensure that the resources they are considering to use are appropriate for their class’s
grade and maturity level. As new research, information and technology become
available in the future, this list will need to be updated. We intend for this to be a living
document, rather than a static, unchanging list. As some of these resources do discuss
sensitive and graphic content, teachers should be sure to receive parental consent prior
to using it in the classroom. These resources can be easily paired with topics and
activities directly related to the Alberta Program of Studies to strengthen learning about
Indigenous topics. As a group, we feel confident that these resources can support
teachers as they learn to incorporate Indigenous content and pedagogy in their
classrooms, which is such a vital piece of education.
