Sperm Production and Anatomy Explained

Sperm cells are formed in the seminiferous tubules of the testicles over a period of around 2.5 months. The testicles produce both sperm and the male sex hormone testosterone. Sperm cells mature over approximately 72 days inside the testicles. Once matured, sperm travel from the testicles through the epididymis and vas deferens, and are stored in the seminal vesicles to be ejaculated through the penis during sexual intercourse. The key parts of a sperm cell include the head containing DNA and enzymes, the midpiece containing mitochondria, and the tail which provides mobility.

SLIDE 3: It takes almost 2.

5 months of timed development to

produce a single sperm cell. Sperm are initially formed in small
microscopic tubes within the testicle called seminiferous tubules. As
an organ, the testicle is designed to produce two things: sperm and
testosterone or “T” (the male sex hormone). Hence, the cell
population inside the testicle is composed of three basic types of cells:
Germ cells – “sperm producing” cells
Sertoli cells – “nursing cells” that foster the growth and
development of immature/early stage sperm
Leydig cells – “testosterone producing” cells
Once sperm cells are made, they begin the long process of maturation,
which takes, on average, 72 days to complete.
SLIDE 4: This is a penis and this a testicle. And a very important
thing that you all should remember is that “ONLY MALES HAVE”.
Spermatozoa, also known as the singular form of the sperm, are
formed in the testicles. which are stored outside the body in a sack
called “Scrotum”.
After the sperm formation has been completed, they travel through the
epididymis and the vas deferens, then stored in the seminal vesicle.
When the male makes love, the sperms get released from the seminal
vesicle, enter the urethra and then ejaculates from the penis like this.
SLIDE 5: Now I am going to list out the parts of a sperm.

 FIRST the head: it has got a couple of important things. The

nucleus which has the DNA from the father. And the acrosome
which has the enzyme to break down the cell wall of the ovum.
 NEXT is the neck or A.K.A the mid piece contains the
mitochondria which helps in molality.
 Next is the tail which helps in transportation and to swim faster.
