1. Grand Friday Mosque
The Grand Friday Mosque has
become the landmark of the
city. This is the largest
mosque in the Maldives, lo-
cated in Independence
Square, opposite the National
Security Agency headquarters.
Historical Background: The
Grand Mosque was devel-
oped in 1984 on Friday, with
the assistance of the Gulf
countries, Pakistan, Brunei
and Malaysia. Its architectural
style is plain, the exterior is
white marble, almost una-
