Master Thesis Project
In response to Swiss and European regulations and performance targets, buildings are becoming integrated with
advanced and complex energy systems. This places an increased demand on engineers to provide highly accurate
and detailed numerical models to support the design and operation of modern buildings. For example, the HiLo
building (http://hilo.arch.ethz.ch/), will contain novel and innovative building systems, such as lightweight TABS
(thermally activated building systems) for efficient heating/cooling, decentralised ventilation units, on‐site elec‐
tricity generation with thin‐film photovoltaics, and an occupant centred control system.1
