FAHRENHEIT GmbH
FAHRENHEIT was founded in 2002 as a spin-off from Siegfriedstr. 19

FAHRENHEIT has quickly evolved to be the market and I fahrenheit.cool/en/
innovation leader for adsorption cooling. The technology,
initially intended as a solution for solar cooling, has since
been established in numerous applications.

FAHRENHEIT chillers do not require electrical power for

cooling. They function on the principle of adsorption.
Adsorption occurs when molecules of a liquid (in our case
water) adhere to the surface of a solid (in our case zeolite
crystals). This causes the liquid to evaporate, generating
cold. Once the solid material is saturated, heating it will
cause it to release the adsorbed liquid, allowing the
process to start anew.

As long as any form of residual heat is available, the

machines of FAHRENHEIT can generate cold much more
efficiently and therefore much more environmentally
friendly than any current technology.

sustainable energy systems and are present nationwide
with our three main locations in Erlangen, Garching (near
Munich), and Würzburg.

In its core competence areas of renewable energies,

energy storage and energy efficiency, ZAE Bayern
combines materials research, component development
and system optimization into a seamless value-added
chain in an interdisciplinary research approach. The
researchers at ZAE Bayern work at the interface between
basic research and applied industrial research and deal,
among other things, with nanomaterials, thermal and
electrochemical energy storage, energy-efficient
processes, photovoltaics, energy-optimized buildings and
urban areas as well as smart grids and cross-sectoral
energy systems (electricity and heat/cooling).

engaged with cutting-edge technologies in the field of energy-systems-ines/
renewable energy.

In addition to the practical training for students, applied

research is in in the focus of activities. Research projects
are carried out in the following working areas.
 Industrial Energy Systems
 Energy Systems Technology
 Domestic Energy Systems
 Geo-Energy
 Technology Transfer & International Projects

The majority of research projects are carried out in co-

operation with renewable energy technology companies
as well as further research institutions and international
partner universities. Research activities are mainly
financed by public authorities/institutions like Federal
Ministry of Environment, Federal Ministry of Research
and Technology or German Environment Foundation.

L-DCS Technology GmbH

L-DCS is a German company with headquarters in Kirchenstr. 1
Grasbrunn near Munich. Since the company’s 85630 Grasbrunn
establishment in 2003, it is providing solutions for efficient
air dehumidification and conditioning. L-DCS is helping E: matthias.peltzer@l-dcs.com

the customers to save energy, to create a more favorable
indoor climate and to harvest economical savings. The
privately held company is specialized in providing custom
made solutions adapted to the different local conditions

A Liquid Desiccant Cooling System (L-DCS) is used to

dehumidify air and / or cool air of a building. The core idea
of this technology is the attempt to separate the air
conditioning in their individual process steps
(dehumidification and cooling), and to process them
independently. In this way, the possibility of one or both
sub-steps allow using innovative technologies that use
instead of electricity other sources of power as such as
heat. This offers the possibility of utilizing waste heat,
which usually is released unused into the atmosphere,
e.g. by cogeneration (CHP), district heating, or heat from
various industrial processes (steel production, etc.).

In order to reduce the conventional air conditioning, the E: guenther.fischer@br.de
building is cooled by cooling ceilings, which are operated
with well water, and a ventilation unit based on "solar
cooling".

"Solar cooling" is based on the principle of evaporative

cooling, whereby the water of an aqueous salt solution
evaporates via a heat exchanger and thus cold is
obtained. The resulting concentrated salt solution is
regenerated by heat from a solar system and the humidity
of the outside air back to an aqueous solution, to be used
again for the system.

Airport Munich - Flughafen München GmbH
By 2030 Munich Airport will become one of Germany's Flughafen München GmbH
first CO2-neutral airports. That means: the airport is going Postfach 23 17 55
to reduce the attributable CO2 emission by 60% and 85326 München-Flughafen
compensate the remaining 40%. To achieve that, Munich

always be funded through savings.

Munich Airport assumes responsibility for climate

protection in many different projects and measures.

Munich Airport uses alternative fuels from renewable

energy sources within its vehicle pool. In addition to fuels
from renewable raw materials such as bioethanol, 23 cars
now also run on biogas. It continuously spends switching
more and more lighting systems to energy-saving LED
technology. With its block heat and power plant, the
airport generates over half of its energy requirements
using environmentally friendly natural gas.

For its commitment to climate protection, Munich Airport

has been awarded several times.

dream of replacing refrigerants with water into reality. I: www.efficient-energy.de

After founding the company in 2006 it would take 8 years

before the eChiller refrigeration unit could be presented
to the public at the leading trade fair of the refrigeration
and air-conditioning industry in October 2014.

The eChiller models are the only chillers worldwide that

use the natural safety refrigerant water (R718) as the
refrigerant, offer outstanding energy efficiency, and are
manufactured in mass production. The eChillers already
comply with the F-Gas Directive and any refrigerant-
related safety requirements. The eChillers’ cooling
capacities range from 20 to 45 kW depending on model,
and the individual units can be scaled modularly to up to
300 kW. The refrigeration machines are ideally suited to
cooling data centers and server rooms, buildings,
switching cabinets and industrial processes.
