The Battle for the Net

Everyday when millions of people use the Internet they do not think

about being restricted from websites, or even paying money to go on a

website. This is because everyone is protected by an invisible force field

called Net Neutrality. Net Neutrality is the rule that Internet Service

Providers (or ISP’s) should enable access to all content and applications

regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular

products or websites. This rule was set over a decade ago.

Now, former lawyer for Verizon and chairman of

the FCC (Federal Communications Commision), Ajit

Pai, is working to get rid of Net Neutrality. Ajit Pai believes that without Net

Neutrality he can slow down certain websites to stop bias viewpoints of

companies. “But let’s not kid ourselves; when it comes to a free and open

Internet, Twitter is a part of the problem. The company has a viewpoint and

uses that viewpoint to discriminate,” Ajit said during a news conference. Ajit

knows that websites stop the viewers from viewing certain content to swing
the readers opinion. Whatever you believe it is up a vote by the FCC to

remove Net Neutrality or not.
