The Step by Step instructions for installing Remote Server Admin Tools, and Exchange System Manager
on Windows 7RC 32bit systems, and since Windows 7 is derived from Windows Vista with less bugs, this
setup closely mirrors that of the Windows Vista install.

These steps assume a fresh install of Windows 7 RC 32bit, with no additional software installed,
however if you already have other software installed you will need to ensure that Microsoft Outlook is
not installed or is temporarily removed from the system. Removing Outlook will not delete your profile.

1. Download and install the Windows update for Windows 7RC for Remote Server Admin Tools.
This step is detailed on Microsoft Knowledge Base as KB958830.
2. Open Control Panel, on your workstation.
3. Open Programs and Features, and select “Turn Windows features on or off” on the left side
menu.
4. Expand the feature labeled “Remote Server Administration Tools”
5. Select each feature listed as a child feature, being sure to expand each child feature, and
selecting each sub-child feature as well.

6. Click OK and allow the features to install.

7. Install the Exchange Mapi CDO update. This install may fail if Microsoft Outlook is currently
installed.
8. Reboot the computer.
9. Install the Exchange System Manager. This is the first step in the process that is not Microsoft
approved. This step uses a Microsoft approved install package for Windows Vista. The install
package (MSI) was built with specific system checks to ensure it was not installed on pre-vista
machines. As Windows 7 RC is built off of Windows Vista, this package will work if these system
checks are disabled or removed. I applied some modifications to this install package, removing
only these Vista system checks. Nothing else in the MSI was modified, except the name of the
file.
10. Open Active Directory of User and Computers and select the View menu.
11. Select Advanced Features and you will be able to view the Exchange tabs for the users.

12. Re-install Outlook on the workstation.
