6. Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this

interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.

I find great interest in science and excel substantially in science classes and topics

because learning about evolution, organic chemistry, etc. resonates with me. The topics are

fascinating; it is amazing how to learn how the world’s origins, what our environment is made

up of, and how we can preserve it. The class that inspired me the most was AP Environmental

Science. Although we as a class struggled due to the absence of our teacher and the constant

rotation of substitute teachers, the material we learned in the class has stuck with me. In the

classroom, I studied more in depth, trying harder to make sense of the topics we were learning,

whether it was about ecological economics, species distribution, or climate change. Although

our replacement instructor was a college student about to graduate, he demonstrated

proficient knowledge in environmental science and he taught us to the best of his ability. His

teaching style fueled my interest in environmental science -- I wanted to learn more about the

world we are living in.

Since taking that class, I have joined the Go Green Club at my high school. The club

works on educating other students about recycling and some ways we can help prevent

pollution in our community. We practice garbology -- I participate by spending my lunch every

other Monday at the cafeteria sorting the waste into recycle, compost, and trash bins. Every
time a student comes by to throw away their lunch, I stop them to show them where they

should put their trash. I guide them to the recycling, compost, and trash bins. On top of that,

every time I am with my friends, I always remind them to either recycle their bottles or to

properly dispose of their waste.

Science has ignited my passion for saving the Earth, and it has definitely changed my

lifestyle after learning how big of a carbon footprint I leave.
