Teacher Work Week Agenda

b. Classrooms: Maps and Locations 
■ Pass out map with classroom assignments
■ The copier is located in the teacher workroom. Please be sure to only copy materials to be used
for summer school. Our paper supply is limited (two boxes given to use from SBO).
■ Appropriate playgrounds K-2 and 3-5
■ Safety for an outdoor campus
● Students always walk with a buddy
● Take radios every-time you leave your classroom
● Doors should always be locked
● Ask all visitors to report to the office
c. Summer School Office: sign in/mailboxes, clinic 
■ My Office is located up front in the office conference room
■ If a child becomes ill at school, please send them to the summer school office with a note ​and
radio me that they are coming.
■ Students will be administered medication by the Summer School Nurse in accordance with a
note from the doctor or parent permission (all medicine must go through the office with official
paperwork).
■ Please radio Krystle for behavior issues, do NOT send a student to the summer school office
without notifying me first
■ Summer school mailboxes will be located in the copy room. ​Please check your
mailboxes each morning before school and each afternoon before you leave.
■ Please sign in and out each day on the form by your summer school mailboxes
d. Time Sheets
■ ​We will NOT use Kronos.
■ Please use the appropriate form to keep log of your hours worked.
■ Timesheets are due to Krystle Yarbrough on July 27th​ before you leave, please enter only your

contracted work hours on these sheets.


e. Money for Supplies ($50) 
■ Please do not use classroom supplies that belong to EES teachers. Funds ($50) are available for
you to purchase materials. Tax will not be reimbursed. You must submit a receipt, attached to
the Reimbursement Request form provided.
■ Turn in the Reimbursement Request Form and receipts to Mrs. Yarbrough by July 17th.
f. Substitutes – one sick day 
■ All teacher absences are to be reported to Krystle Yarbrough at 908-0768 as early as possible
■ I have a substitute bank to use, but please remember that there are very limited substitutes for
summer school.
● Game-Day  
a. Arrival of Students
■ Please be in the cafeteria to meet the students at 7:45 ​on the first two days​ of summer school.
In general, Resource teacher, ESL Teacher, IAs and myself will be out there to greet students and
send them to your rooms.
■ After the first two days students will report to your classroom between 7:45-8:00 as they
arrive​, please plan for morning work type of activities during this time. ​Please be standing at
your door visible during this time greeting students as they arrive to your room.
■ Students from SAES and BES will arrive via bus transportation. Krystle will be out there for bus
arrival.
● On the first day of school each student will receive a sticker that identifies his/her home
school as they disembark the bus. This will allow us to return them safely to their
parents.
■ Please be sure to check for notes from parents regarding afternoon transportation
arrangements first thing in the morning.
■ Transportation changes can only be made in writing!
b. Dismissal of Students 
■ ​At dismissal, teachers are asked to walk their students to the cafeteria. Parents should enter
the building, produce identification and sign out their children with you, their summer school
teacher. Ms. Nobles and Ms. Baudean will help with this process. Mrs. Yarbrough will be at the
bus loop.
■ I will provide your sign out sheets in your mailboxes as the weeks approach
■ Please ​line up your bus riders first in line​, you will drop them off at the flagpoles with Mrs.
Yarbrough and then take the rest of your class to the cafeteria.
■ ALWAYS​ take your radio with you during dismissal and arrival of students and please make sure
it is cut on.
c. Attendance 
■ Please take attendance daily using the summer school attendance sheet AND submit it into
powerschool
■ Please have your attendance ready for me to pick up by ​9:00 a.m. daily!
■ The summary section of the attendance sheet is to be completed and submitted to Krystle
Yarbrough on the last day of summer school, ​Thursday, July 27th.
d. Parent Communication 
■ Please make a phone contact with each child’s parents prior to the start of summer school on
July 5​ to introduce yourself, share highlights from your instructional plan, the daily schedule,
th​

etc. ​Please follow this up with a newsletter to send home on the first day of summer school.
■ Please use a log to document communication with parents. (via phone or in writing)
Think carefully about responding in email! If you have concerns and want a second
opinion before responding, please let me know and I will be happy to help.
■ Please send home a weekly newsletter to parents during summer school
e. Behavior Management 
■ School Wide Positive Behavior Supports (to be discussed).
● Use Elmont’s “Three R’s - Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready”
■ Awards/Prizes
● Perfect Attendance - Certificate & All-Star Medal
● Daily Classroom MVP Award - Star Pencil
a. Submit names daily in bin by sign out sheet
● Caught being good stickers from me as I walk around
● Classroom Prize Bin (use in conjunction with other free prize coupons like hat day, sit in
teacher chair, work at teacher desk etc…)
■ Please monitor children closely in the classroom, library, playground, and on the sidewalks.
● Playground Teacher Supervision Schedules (turn into Krystle)
■ Teachers are to address minor discipline concerns. If necessary, contact the parent at the end of
the school day and document it on your contact log.
■ HANOVER COUNTY CODE OF CONDUCT will be in effect for all students.
■ Any severe problems should be reported to Krystle Yarbrough.
■ Have students pick up all trash off of the floor at the end of each day. Our custodial
staff is very limited.
■ Keep classrooms neat! Clean up following snack and make sure all chairs are stacked at
the end of the day.

■ Instructional Plans
● A Scope & Sequence will only be turned in once during summer school. This will give me
the opportunity to see your plan. However, please have your lesson plans available all
the time.
● Curriculum Maps will be due on Thursday, July 6​ th

■ Reading Instruction Ideas and Tools


● There are Summer Success kits available to supplement your instruction.
● Please feel free to use the school book rooms. Please sign out all materials on the
clipboards in the rooms. Make sure all materials are returned to the appropriate
location before the end of summer school.
● Reading Instruction should follow a small group/guided reading model
a. You are free to choose a framework that is familiar to your (Daily 5, Cafe,
Literacy Stations)
b. Students should have a guided reading lesson with you, writing and reading to
self/parter daily
● Book Bin/Box Donations
a. You can go build a book library from book donations located in the F-Building
b. On the last day of summer school, each child may select 2 or 3 books (or more)
to take home with them
● Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program/School Summer Reading
a. Have students keep track and fill out the log during summer school
b. Explain program/log in newsletter home
c. If school are doing something school specific (like Elmont’s reading band log or
the local library reading log) please remind students that they can put the books
they read on that list as well.
■ Math Instruction Ideas and Tools
● There are Summer Success Math Kits available to supplement your instruction.
● Math instruction should follow a small group approach
a. Students should be working in a small group with you, practicing
problem-solving skills, and working on computation skills daily
● Dreambox is available this summer and students can use classroom computers
■ School Library
● Every classroom will have access to the school library once a week on Wednesdays
a. The first Library day will be 7/6 ​due to the first day of summer school being a
Wednesday
● Each class will have 20 minutes to allow students to check out 2 library books
a. Refer to Library schedule for your class time
● Teachers should help students find and check out books during this time
● Please remind students that we are borrowing books from Elmont and we need to be
Respectful and Responsible with these books
● Add a blurb in your newsletter about Library checkout and remind parents that students
are responsible for their books just like during the year
■ First Two Days
● Use these two days to establish rules, routines, and procedures
● Conduct a team building activity with your students
● Work with students to set an appropriate Summer School Goal
■ Last Day of Summer School
● STEM Sports Day
a. In an effort to have fun and learn at the same time, students will complete a
Sport Themed STEM activity.
b. You may either choose your own sports themed STEM activity or use the one I
provide to you later in the month.
c. You may wish to ask parents to donate supplies for the STEM activity in your
weekly parent newsletter.
g. Technology 
■ You can use your 5 classroom computers
■ Laptops will be available for checkout from the Summer School Office, they ​MUST​ be returned
at the end of the day
■ Computer Logins for summer staff - world client emails and computer access (see slip of paper in
binder/folder for default login information)
h. Safety  
■ Safety for an outdoor campus
● Students always walk with a buddy

■ We will have one fire drill during the first week July 6th and approximately 8:45 a.m., weather
permitting. Details will come in our first staff newsletter.
■ Please located your classroom phone, radio, and emergency bag. If you do not have one of 
these items please let me know right away.

■ Must turn back in copies of reg. forms and assessment cards for shredding

● End of Game Wrap-Up  


a. Checklist for checking out 
■ Use Checking out checklist as a guide for wrapping up the last days of school. When it’s finished
please turn into Krystle signed.
b. Progress Report –2 copies (1 for parents and 1 for me to distribute to feeder 
schools) 
■ ​Report of Student Progress​ – A final progress report should be sent home the last day of
summer school. I would like to read each one before you send them home. Please turn in the
final progress reports to me by ​Tuesday, July 25​ . Please make one copy of each report and
th​

turn them in by school name to the summer school office. Copies will be sent to home schools
to be filed in the student's cumulative folder.
