The culmination of our instructional gymnastics program is the annual Gymnastics Show. Kindergarten children who
have attended our program in the Fall 2017 and/or Winter 2018 sessions are eligible to perform in this year’s
exhibition on Saturday June 2. We will practice during our regular class times as outlined below plus 2 dress
rehearsals as noted below. There is a limit to the number of children in each class, so register early.
It is imperative that the children attend every practice.
Participants attend designated class time, dress rehearsal and show performance as outlined above.
NEW KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS and those choosing to not be in the show may register for the
Saturday 9:00-9:45 Introduction to Gymnastics class only.
Be sure you can attend all practices, dress rehearsal and performance. Please check your calendar carefully before registering.
Tickets for the Kindergarten shows will be sold for all spectators beginning May 7. The price will be $10 per person (for all specta-
tors over age 5). There most likely will not be tickets available for purchase at the door. If you need seating on chairs for senior
citizens or those who cannot sit in the bleachers, let us know when you buy your tickets and we will reserve seats for you.

This program has come a long way since the inception of the gymnastics program back in 1975. Our 24 gymnasts
used wrestling mats borrowed from South Side High School, a wooden balance beam and free-standing uneven
bars in those inaugural shows! “Sesame Street” was the first themed show in 1980, with “Rainbow Connection” as our
first warm-up number. We were happy to have the granddaughter of one of our original gymnasts participate in our
program this year!
We hope that everyone who has participated in the Fall or Winter sessions of gymnastics will be able to participate in
this year’s Gymnastics Show. Due to the fact that this is not an instructional program in the Spring session, new
students must wait until the Summer session to register when the instructional programs begins again.
All girls must wear leotards or unitards. Gymnasts do not need to purchase new outfits if you have them already. But
if you wish to buy one, inexpensive leotards may be purchased online, just google “gymnastics leotard” and lots of
choices will come up. Please do not purchase leos that have lots of frills or skirts. They are inappropriate for
gymnastics. Absolutely no jewelry. Please do not plan for new ear piercing near the show date! Barefeet are a must
for everyone while performing.
Once practices begin, you cannot change your registration.
Look carefully at your calendar at home and register for the class day with corresponding performance that works
for you. Please make note of the mandatory dress-rehearsal that also correspond with your show. Start now to make
arrangements with any other obligations that may conflict. We cannot save a place for you in a class, and do not
assume that we know you will be registering! When a certain show performance day and time is closed, it is closed.
SORRY, LAST MINUTE CHANGES CANNOT BE ACCOMMODATED! PLEASE CHECK YOUR CALENDARS NOW TO AVOID
LAST-MINUTE DROP-OUTS AND CONFLICTS. Even one child dropping out changes EVERYTHING!
We are blessed with a talented and dedicated group of senior gymnastics coaches, supported by our high school
staff and volunteers. The instructors will work your child on the four gymnastics apparatus (bars, beam, vault and
floor exercise) as well as the training aids we use in the instructional classes.
With your help, support and cooperation, the 2018 shows will be a big success. If you have any questions, problems,
or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact Heather (HKnoch@rvcny.us).
All information regarding gymnastics will be posted on our on the Rec. Dept. website at
WWW.RVCREC.WEEBLY.COM.
Happy Handstands!
