Wax Museum Overview

It is time for Eastover’s annual fifth grade Wax Museum! Each student will be assigned a character
pertinent to the colonial time period. The wax museum project will begin with research of the individual
character. Students will take notes using a graphic organizer to help them create a personal narrative
speech. Students should use at least THREE different RELIABLE sources for their information that will be
listed at the end of their paper. Students will be graded on their presentation (30 points),
costume/characterization (20 points), and their written report (50 points) for a cumulative 100 points.
Students will also make a “button” and coin receptacle for money to “activate” their wax figure. As a grade
level, students will vote on a local charity to donate this money to.

Students are expected to write a personal narrative speech that is approximately 60-90 seconds
long. This will be memorized. Students will be graded on their expression and how well they personify
their character. They will also be graded on their memorization and delivery.

Students are also expected to create a costume that appropriately reflects their character. We
highly encourage that costumes be put together at home out of clothes and materials that the student
already owns. Be creative! We do not want this to be a stressful expense. If you do feel inclined to
purchase something, please do not exceed $10.00. Students may use recycled materials to showcase
creativity and understanding of the character. Students will be graded on the costume completeness,
appropriateness, and details.

Students will be working on this project both in Writing class and at home. They will turn in a
typed, double spaced, size 12 font copy of their paper prior to the Wax Museum that will be printed
during Technology class. The following deadlines will occur:
