Research Methods

The members undertook research using different methods:

1. Reading reference books

All members read books at the school library as well as at home to gather as much information
as possible. We read books about transportation, its history and impact on the environment
around us.

2. Reading scientific papers

The group members also read scientific papers on the main research question. We also group
discussions after reading these papers.

3. Searching on the internet

We also used the internet to do research. We read articles about the rise in the amount of cars
on roads and their impact on our surroundings and such topics.

4. Surveys

We did a total of 20 surveys at our localities. Their ages spanned from 15 years to 55 years.

5. Interviews

We interview people between the age groups of 13 and 50. We asked them basic questions like
average distance travelled and their suggestions to make their trips greener.

6. Group discussion:
All group members sat together and discussed their ideas and shared their views on the main
question. We discussed the results we got from our survey and interviews. We also discussed
the topic with our teachers and parents.

7. Maintaining a transport diary for a week

The members tried to make their trips as green as possilble and recorded their trips in the
transport diaries. This information was then analysed and used to find the average carbon
emission of each family.
