Dear SASCOC Membership,

We are sure that you will be fed with stories of how we have been
found guilty of misconduct and have been summarily dismissed. We
have already shown you how the voting on this issue was rigged in it’s
interpretation by the legal firm. We were also told by the SASCOC
board that we had no right to appeal, even though the SASCOC HR
policy allows us this avenue. In any event we appealed to SASCOC
against this decision and received a prompt reply from Norton Rose
Fulbright (NRF) that the SASCOC board had decided not to grant us the
appeal and that we should go to the CCMA. If you check this you will
find that this was not even tabled with the board for consideration.
We have lodged our appeal to the CCMA and we are happy that we
will go to the Enquiry and testify on our side of the story including the
disciplinary charges.

As the membership surely you should be asking questions on the lack

of governance evident in the organization and the leadership you
elected, even those who were ineligible but nevertheless got elected
after the constitution was manipulated.

1. R500 000 later the constitution was to be reviewed as was

promised in the last council meeting. The draft amendments
were to have been circulated to you for interaction and
ratification at the AGM last year, which AGM sadly did not take
place. This has still not happened and we wonder what excuse
they will give you on Saturday.

2. When NRF was appointed was the proper tender process

followed as per policy and procedure manual for spending in
excess of R5million. Was it given to NRF because one of the
Presidents of a national federation has a son employed at NRF.
Coincidence, we don’t know, maybe. Who appointed NRF? Who
ratified the list of charges against us? Who approved payment of
R6.2million to NRF? How much are they still going to charge
SASCOC?
3. SASCOC board apparently has a management committee. Have
you ever been notified as the membership of this development?
Comprises of Gideon Sam, Barry Hendricks and Kobus Marais.
Why does this committee exclude the Deputy President? This
committee goes against the spirit of the IOC charter. The
constitution says the majority must be comprised of the Olympic
component.
Gideon Sam – Olympic
Barry Hendricks – Provincial Sports Confederation
Kobus Marais – Associate Member
Majority non-Olympic.

4. Gideon Sam is now President for the tenth year and has not
brought in a single cent in sponsorship continuously blaming us
for not being able to attract sponsorship. Yet in the eight years
before this the CFO and CEO have secured the sponsorships for
the organization including the accessing of Lottery funding.
SASCOC grew in stature from 2009 to 2016 and our
achievements are documented and part of history. Enter 2017
and the organization was in total decline. Ask this leadership to
list their successes of 2017. Ask them to show you how much
they spent on legal fees versus how much they funded the
preparation of our athletes. Investigate how much was spent on
a coach facilitator from the grant of approximately R7million
given from the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation. Why
has Kobus Marais, chair of Fincom, not questioned why KZNDSR
could not contract directly with Durban University of Technology
(DUT) (R1.7million) and Leroy Newton Sports Agency
(R1.4million) but rather through SASCOC. Is it because they
colluded with her on the alleged sexual harassment charges she
levelled against me?

5. You will no doubt be told how corrupt the three of us are and
that the auditors are saying that we must be charged. We
welcome the charges, charges for the very same items they have
audited and this board has approved in the previous financial
years. We are ready to face these and any further charges that
they can fabricate against us.

6. Ask this same illegitimate board when last have they

successfully had a board meeting that had a quorum? Ask
yourselves when in your experience, from a moral and ethical
point of view, did you come across a president that uses his vote
and then also a casting vote in order to ensure he can get a
majority decision in his favor, the case in point being the removal
of Aleck Skhosana as a board member.

The list is endless but we will stop here. We will save the rest for
the enquiry. But the question to you is how long will you turn a
blind eye to the anomalies of this SASCOC Board, particularly this
President and his loyal few from the Board.

Need I remind you that you are the highest decision making entity
in sport in our country. Surely, you cannot allow these few
individuals to destroy arguably what has been one of the best
NOC’s in Africa and indeed many parts of the world. The time has
come for you to vote this Board out of office instead of waiting for
the Enquiry to do this for you.

You are the sports leadership, it’s time that you stand up and be
counted as true leaders. Remember leadership is not about being
popular, if you are a popular leader then you are not a good leader.

A good leader is one that can take the unpopular decisions.

Regards,

Tubby Reddy, Vinesh Mararaj and Jean Kelly
