MIAMI — Patience paid
off for Antoine Douglas
during his win over Juan
De Angel to get a knockout
and a championship belt.
Douglas, of Washing-
ton, D.C., knocked out
De Angel of Barranquilla,
Columbia, at 2:46 of the
fourth round to claim the
WBC FECARBOX middle-
weight title and the vacant
WBA-NABA middleweight
crown.
“I mainly just took my
time,” Douglas said. “I tried
to be more mature and
take my time because I had
more rounds to go.”
The win was the 22nd in
24 professional fights for
Douglas and it was his 16th
by knockout.
“I was really just using
my distance and my jab
because we knew he was
weak to the body,” Douglas
and in the process, made
Smith the 166th fighter to
suffer his first defeat on
Showtime’s “ShoBox: The
New Generation.”
This was first action
in five months for a key
member of the Four State
Franchise, and it showed.
“I was trying too hard,”
Baranchyk said through

Douglas hopes that the
win means a shot at a fight
on Showtime Champion-
ship Boxing.
“That would be the big
leagues,” he said.
Friday’s fight wasn’t part
of the “ShoBox” telecast.
“Every win feels good,
especially when you are
climbing that ladder,”
Douglas said. “You don’t
want to take two steps back.
As long as I am taking steps
forward and I am winning,
I am very satisfied.”

MIAMI — Former
Olympian Charles
Conwell ended his fight
Friday, July 15 at Buf-
falo Run Casino against
Rick Graham like he did
in his previous four: a
knockout.
Conwell worked
Graham into the ropes in
the second round with a
series of punches. A shot
to the head led referee
Gerald Ritter to halt the
fight at 2:33.
“I listened to my corner
… started hitting him
with more cleaner shots,”
said Four State Franchise
member Conwell, now
4-0 with all four wins via
knockout.
The previous three out-
ings had been stopped in
the second, first and first
rounds.
“I’m not mad about the
stoppage,” said Conwell,
who is from Cleveland,
Ohio. “He complained

guess it really hurt him.”
He’s now got four
fights under his belt since
making his pro debut in
Miami on April 21.
“I like having a lot of
fights. It keeps me sharp
and it keeps me active,”
Conwell said. “We’re just
going to keep on winning
by knockouts, impress
the fans and give them a
good show. I am always

always in the gym work-
ing to get better.”
Promoter Tony Holden
likes what he’s seen so far
from Conwell, who was
the last member of the
2016 USA Olympic team
to turn pro.
“Charles looked great,”
Holden said. “He took it
easy in the first round.
We were trying to get
him some rounds, but
came on strong at the
end. The guy we were
fighting didn’t have the
best record (Graham
has won just four times
with two draws in 23 pro
fights), but he doesn’t get
stopped. We thought we’d
get a lot of rounds in.
“Charles is at a dif-
ferent level. Charles is
a mega top prospect
and will be a world
champion.”
“They are moving me
in the right direction,
trying to get me quite a
few fights,” Conwell said.
“They want me to stay
active and I really appre-
ciate that.”
Conwell’s brother,
Isaiah Steen, also of
Cleveland, didn’t need
long to get his seventh
pro win.
He took out Travis
Nero (0-2) at 1:32 of the
first round.
All seven of Steen’s
wins have come on
stoppages.
