This document summarizes a study that compared the effectiveness of core stability exercises and muscle energy techniques on increasing hip joint flexibility and reducing hamstring tightness. The study involved 48 female students who performed a 3-week program of core stability exercises, followed by a 14-day break and then a 3-week program of muscle energy techniques. Hip flexibility was measured before and after each program using the Modified Sit and Reach Test, Straight Leg Raise Test, and Forward Bending Test. The results showed that both programs significantly increased hip flexibility as measured by all three tests, with no significant differences between the two groups.

Muhammadiyah Health Science High School Palembang phsiotherapy Diploma Study Program; Palembang City; South Sumatera; Indonesia ABSTRAK Hamstring tightness is a condition caused by the decrease of hip joint flexibility. Reduction in hip flexibility could restrict functional activity such as bowing “ruku’” in prayer and tying shoes. Furthermore, this tightness will lead to low back pain. A cross over experimental study was conducted to compare Core Stability Exercise (CSE) and Muscle Energy Techniques Exercise (MET) on hamstring flexibility. Hip joint flexibility was measured by Modified Sit and Reach Box Test (MSRT), Straight Leg Raise Test (SLR), and Forward Bending Test. The subjects were 48 female undergraduate students. First Period they performed the CSE training program for 3 weeks, then second period they performed MET. They also had the wash out time for 14 days between these periods. MSRT, SLR test, and Forward bending test were increase in both group. There were no significant differences between CSE and MET group with p>0,05 Both CSE and MET increased hip joint flexibility.
