Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

PowerPoint is an exceptional tool that can be used to create an informational presentation. The great
thing about PowerPoint is that it can convert the PowerPoint into a MP4 version so that the PowerPoint can
be heard along with the visual aid on the screen. These neat feature assist students who may be visually
impaired, this allows them to listen to what is going on and for those students who are hearing impaired this
allows them to read along with the PowerPoint.

Lesson idea implementation:

Students will differentiate between the states of water and the relation to the water cycle and weather
when viewing the MP4 version of the PowerPoint that was created by the teacher. The students will watch
and be attentive while viewing the video. After viewing the video, the students will be asked to create their
own PowerPoint of the water cycle, including the different states of water and the relation water has with the
water cycle and weather. The teacher will display the steps of the water cycle and the characteristics of each.
This will help the students learn the water cycle as they work on their very own PowerPoint. After creating
the PowerPoint with the images and designs they chose, they will be asked to use the voice tool in
PowerPoint. This voice tool allows the student to record their voices and read the words on each slide. After
going through the entire PowerPoint presentation the student will convert the PowerPoint into an MP4.
This project will take the students a week to complete. The learning will be assessed with a rubric. The
rubric will focus on the accuracy of the order of the water cycle and all of the characters within each. It will be
assessed on the appropriate images used for each step. The accuracy of grammar and spelling will be
assessed. The total completion and the ability to use the voice tool, converting and the final product will be
assessed. The final products will be used to review the water cycle. Each student will have the opportunity to
share their work with the class. To extend the student learning to a higher level, the students will have the
chance to create a booklet to follow along with their PowerPoint. This booklet will be great for hands-on
learners and will allow the students to strengthen their creativity skills. This lesson will be concluded with
asking students who would like to share their work with the class. Their booklets will be displayed outside of

the classroom after the child has received feedback on their work. The student’s feedback will be written on
the back of their booklets and on the rubric for the MP4 version of their assignment.

Reflective Practice:
I believe this lesson will impact the student’s creativity skills, the ability to watch a video, retain information
and use that information to create something of their own. To further extend this lesson the students will
explain the water cycle (evaporation, condensation, and precipitation), investigate different forms of
precipitation and sky conditions. (rain, snow, sleet, hail, clouds, and fog). Another piece of technology that
can be used is Discovery Education. This tool can be used to allow the students to create a board with the
extended part of the water cycle lesson.
