bus. The attractive coastal towns of
Tynemouth and Whitley Bay offer

of Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland

busy as you settle in to your new

You will break for the Christmas
vacation, but will typically

You will break for the Easter
vacation around April, but will be

Summer term
Many of the more formal
timetabled elements of your

Postgraduate study is

more interesting. We get to work
with current technology trends
and get to try things out in the lab.
The coursework is also practical.
The postgraduate community
has been great, offering assistance
with respect to studies, hints and
tips for examination success and
also organising events such as
trips, parties and quiz nights.
I would like to become a
chartered engineer. Since
becoming a student, the course
organisers have enrolled us
into the IET (Institution of
Engineering and Technology)
which is the first step along
this path, and there are mentors
along the way to guide me to
my dreams.

Hsin, MA Translating
and Interpreting
(China)
The programme is well designed
and I have learned a lot. We not
only have good lectures but also
good facilities; for example
we have language booths to
practise in. The teachers are
very supportive and friendly;
they are always willing to answer
your questions. They come up
with new projects to improve
your abilities in translating and
interpreting. The University
provides student support in
every aspect of our lives.
My programme has about 50
students so a lot of teamwork
is involved. There is a common
room in the Old Library Building
where we can chat and socialise
in our free time.
I would like to become a
translator and interpreter in
the future. My course will help
me because it is a practical
programme. I have also had
the opportunity to gain work
experience whilst studying.
I interpreted for the mayor at
an exhibition in Newcastle Civic
Centre and did some translating
work for the Visa Team.
