In an environment so changeable and highly competitive like the current one, it has been proven
that those organizations that count on an explicit and clear statement about their vision, mission,
and values with their customers, both internal and external, find it easier to direct their actions
and face up the setbacks that are imposed by the market where they operate. This is possible
since the management team has clarity about the reason why the company they lead exists;
likewise, the employees certainly know the company they work for and what it is pursuing for the
next ten or fifteen years, as well as the organization’s corporate values to inspire every worker
with moral and ethical strength to lead them to the future the organization has proposed to build.
In the business world, the vision, also called “future vision”, is defined as the wide and sufficient
statement about where the organization wants to be within certain time. “It is an ensemble of
general ideas that provide the reference frame of what an organization is, and what wants to be”
(Coctelera, 2012, pag. 3). For instance, someone creates a logistics company in 2018, as their
vision (long term goal), they say that by 2025 they will be consolidated as a company that leads
the logistics and communication market, thanks to the security, opportunity and national
It is important to specify that a strategic vision reflects the management’s aspirations regarding
the company and its business, when it provides a big picture of where to go, and when it supplies
the specific elements associated to its future business plans. Such strategic vision is created by
the person in charge of the company, who, at the same time, has the responsibility of assessing
and including in the analysis, the ambitions of the agents who form the organization, both
internal and external. Once the vision is defined, every action and decision aims at that point.

A strategic vision with a right approach is very important since it becomes the source of
inspiration for the company. Besides, it represents the essence that leads the initiative. It is from
there that the strength is taken when hard times come and it helps to work with a purpose and in
the same direction to every person who is committed to get what the company wants.
The mission is the purpose or the raison d’être of a company. The company’s mission defines
what is it what they want to achieve in their environment or the social system that they belong to,
what they pretend to do, and to whom. Getting back to the previous example, their mission could
be to satisfy the logistics and global communication needs of their customers, through
outstanding service, the comprehensive development of their leaders, and a sense of commitment
Regarding the values, they could be defined as the beliefs about how things must be inside the
company and how you are supposed to proceed. Likewise, its primary function is to serve as a
behavior guide, either the way to conceive leadership, or to limit what is right or wrong, and
Schendell y Hatten (quoted by Contreras, 2013) assert that strategy is the ensemble of purposes
and basic goals of the organization, the main action plans selected to reach out these purposes and
goals, and the prominent allocation resources systems used to relate the organization with its
environment.

In agreement with that, it is possible to see how the resources (technological, material,
economical, logistics, and human) at the organization disposal, must aim toward the achievement
of the purposes and goals. It must be established a period of time and once it is completed, the
outcomes must be compared to the pre-established goals, to determine which aspects were not
accomplished and proceed to get a feedback that enables to make better decisions.
