Direct Observation of Treatment Supervising OT will observe OTA on a day to day


basis and provide a weekly review of occupational
therapy services.

During week 3-5 the supervising OT will observe


OTA during 50% of their caseload.

After week 5 the supervising OT will review OTA


services as needed.

Face to Face Meeting OTA and supervising OT will meet at the beginning
of each month to discuss clinical performance.

Phone Meeting Meetings over the phone will only occur if other
means of communication are unavailable
Electronic Communication/email At the end of every week the OTA will notify the
supervising OT of any concerns and questions as
well as a brief self-reflection of their clinical
performance.

Monitoring of Documentation Supervising OT will monitor all documentation on an


everyday basis.

Supervision for Screening & Evaluation:

Supervising OT is responsible for screening, evaluation, and reevaluation process. The


OTA may contribute to the screening, evaluation, and reevaluation process. The OTA can
gather client information (e.g. health conditions, contraindications, precautions, medical
diagnoses, DOB, etc.), referral information, a brief occupational profile), make
recommendations regarding appropriate OT services, may complete some standardized
assessments.

Supervision for Treatment / Intervention:

Supervising OT is responsible for the development, documentation, and implementation of


all therapeutic intervention based on the evaluation, client goals, best available evidence,
clinical reasoning. The supervising OT collaborates with clients on developing and
implementing an intervention plan. The OTA contributes to the overall intervention process.

Supervision for Documentation:

The OT prepares, implements, documents, and interprets expected outcomes. An


occupational therapy assistant contributes to the documentations as well as the
transition or discontinuation plan based on the client's needs or goals and
appropriate follow up resources. The supervising OT must sign off on all documentation.
Goals for Professional Development:

1. OTA will improve skills of administering standardized assessment.


2. OTA will be more competent in providing appropriate intervention to meet the clients
need.
3. OTA will incorporate evidence based literature into therapeutic interventions.
4. OTA will become knowledgeable with a wide range of diagnosis that are unfamiliar.
Professional Development Activities Recommended or Planned:

1. Supervising OT will demenstory proper administration of standardized assessment


with a client while OTA observes.
2. Supervising OT and OTA will meet weekly to discuss effective intervention
approaches until OTA is comfortable/competent.
3. Supervision OT will provide resources monthly to the OTA that focus on evidence
based practice.
4. OTA will attend multiple workshops that address diagnosis to further develop their
competency.
