b. What did he say?__________ I didn’t hear what he said.
c. When do they arrive? ___ Do you know when they arrive?
d. Who lives there? _____ Let’s take a look who lives there.
e. Why is she angry?______ Please tell me why she is angry.
A noun clause that starts with “WHETHER or IF” is used to answer YES/NO
QUESTIONS.
1. As a SUBJECT
SUBJECT VERB COMPLEMENT
1. Do you know the issue?
it is not your business
Whether/if you know or not, is not your business
2. Will Andy come here?
it is unimportant to me
Whether he will come or not, is unimportant to me
2. As an OBJECT
SUBJECT VERB OBJECT

NOUN CLAUSE with “THAT”
The word “that” above has no meaning. It only marks the beginning
of the clause.

2. As an OBJECT

PS: “That” can be omitted when it is placed as the object
