(Tram explains to Luke what to expect in the interview and how to answer the question.)
[02:46]Luke: Hi, am Luke Gourmet, I am the president of ATX Hyperbaric, we are extended hyperbaric
oxygen clinic here in Houston Texas and that means we accept referrals from area doctors, medicine
doctors, plastic surgeons or orthopedics, people like that and we treat patients with hyperbaric option
therapy according to the doctors’ orders. We have a very good relationship with most of the physicians
in Houston and they continue to send us wonderful patients so we love to help with hyperbaric.
(Tram directs)
[03:21]Luke: So we are not treating patients ourselves, we are not diagnosing anything, we are not tying
this around anything, and we are treating them according to their doctor’s orders.
[03:30]Tram: How does that feel?
[03:37]Luke: the bill is a very trusting collaborative relationship with the physicians because they know
that we are going to do exactly what they order, and they don’t have to worry about us going out on our
own and coming up with something different.
[03:39]Tram: Say it again.
[03:55]Luke: The bill is a very good trusting collaborative relationship with the physicians because
they….. (Pauses)
[04:06]Luke: It helps build is really la……. (Loss of words)
[04:18]Luke: I help build a trusting collaborative relationship with physicians because they entrust us to
do exactly what they ordered for the patient.
(Tram directs)
[04:37]Luke: So we have a very good relationship with one of my area doctor who is known…..
(Stopped)
[04:48]Luke: We have a very positive relationship with the local area doctor who treats a lot of old
patients because that is a big issue in central Texas and we have had positive experience, it was all swift,
all our patients.
(Tram Directs)
[05:10]Luke: We have a very positive relationship with a functional medical doctor in the area who
treats mostly bone poisoning and other related diseases and we have had very positive results with all
the patients. There are also orthopedic surgeons in the area who like to send some of their young
athletes who got injured to us and we help them heal fast as well.
(Tram directs)
[05:40]Luke: With normal primary chest physicians the primary patient type that we end up seeing are
tears, people who got experienced a brain drone because most of those doctors don’t have a reliable
treatment facility for patients and they stated to turn to us here at ATX hyperbaric to treat the patients
and see the eyes.
(Tram Directs)
[41:40]Luke: We are proud to have this positive relationship with area doctors where we are able to be
an important alternative tool and an arson, that other doctors don’t necessarily have as the doctors that
we work with are able to provide an alternative solution for many other patients that they simply
haven’t have access to for.
(Tram Directs)
[08:08]Luke: One of the great benefits is that we are able to provide an alternative solution and a tool
care that many other doctors in our area that many other patients haven’t heard or just haven’t come to
contact with but his doctors are able to use us as kind of an advanced solution in what wasn’t used
before.
(Tram directs)
[08:36]Luke: Most of the challenges that we have been seeing recently are related to the fact that there
are just not always….. Sorry.
(Tram expounds more)
[09:005]Luke: One of the challenges of making relationships with more physicians is that they simply no
enough education about hyperbaric option therapy out there, so that is one of our big goals that we
strive to meet here at ATX Hyperbaric is providing that education and that information for doctors to
learn about this new and exciting innovation in healthcare.
(Tram discusses)
[11:03]Luke: One of the challenges of working with more physicians is simply education, a lot of this
doctors have a certain mind set around how hyperbaric option therapy can be informative but because
of this now has been approved for general health and wellness by FDA, we can actually treat off label
and that’s a very important solution to provide to the area physicians.
(Tram expounds further)
[11:42]Luke: One of the main obstacles of working with more physicians is simply education they don’t
know about ….. (Loss of words)
(Tram explains)
[12:01]Luke: One of the many challenges of working with new physicians….. (Stops)
[12:12]Luke: One challenge of working with more physicians is simply education, most doctors don’t
know about this new and exciting application that is proven treatment ….. (Loss of words)
(Tram asks the question again)
[12:46]Luke: The main challenge of working with more physicians is simply education. A lot of them
don’t know of the applications of hyperbaric oxygen that can be used for and so that is one of the
benefits that we provide at ATX hyperbaric is the education and information on how this proven
technology can be used in new and exciting ways.
(Tramp asks a question)
[13:16]Luke: A big challenge of working with more physicians is the fact that they….. sorry (loss of
words)
(Tram directs)
[13:25]Luke: One challenge of working with more physicians is simply education, doctors haven’t been
taught about the new and exciting applications of hyperbaric options therapy and so we are proud to
provide those resources and education at ATX hyperbaric. So that doctors can provide hyperbaric option
therapy to their patients as an exciting alternative solution.
(Tram discusses)
[14:00]Luke: Some physicians are not aware that hyperbaric oxygen can be used of label, they have
been told there 14 FDA approved uses of hyperbaric oxygen therapy but very recently it has been
approved for general health and wellness and therefore doctors can prescribe hyperbaric oxygen
therapy for off label conditions.
(Tram discusses further)
[14:38]Luke: The most common off label condition that we treat here is brain injuries. And…. sorry.
[14:48]Luke: One of the most common …… (Loss of words)
[14:54]Luke: One of the most common conditions that we treat here at ATX hyperbaric off label is brain
injury. There has been resent developments in neuron science that you can actually have brain damage
or burst inside the hyperbaric chamber, by putting oxygen into the tissue that has lost it as a result of
that brain injury we can actually grow new neurons and add a loss of that brain matter.
(Tram and Luke discuss about off label treatments)
[18:43]Luke: So the most common off label conditions that we treat here are brain injuries, which is a
recent development and neuron science which is that, we have MRI documentation that hyperbaric
option therapy can reverse brain mater loss and patients who have experienced severe brain injury.
Another is chronic fatigue where it gives people more energy and the third is really any other
inflammatory condition that can be greatly helped by hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Although wound
healing is improved by hyperbaric option …….. (Loss of words)
(Tram directs to start over again)
[19:21]Luke: Although wound healing isn’t an approved condition for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, many
of the patients that we treat for wounds are using hyperbaric oxygen therapy for elective procedures,
like plastic surgery which is not covered in the insurance, usually.
(Tram discusses about interested physicians)
[20:08]Luke: If you are a physician and you would like to know more about how this proven treatment
can help your patients feel free to give us a call and lets start this conversation.
(Tram discuss about the Plastic surgery)
[22:51]Luke: A recent trend that we have been seeing here is that a lot of the patients being referred by
their doctors for elective procedures.
(Tram Directs)
[23:46]Luke: Hi, Am Luke Gourmet, President of ATX hyperbaric, we are a standalone hyperbaric oxygen
clinic here in Houston Texas. One of the recent trends we have seen among our patients is that we have
seen a lot more patients being referred by their doctors for elective procedures.
(Tram directs Luke to start again)
[24:12]Luke: Hi, am Luke gourmet, president of ATX hyperbaric we are a standalone hyperbaric oxygen
therapy clinic here in Houston Texas…… (Stops again)
[24:24]Luke: Hi am Luke gourmet, president of ATX hyperbaric, a standalone hyperbaric oxygen therapy
clinic here in Houston Texas. A recent growing trend we have seen among our patients base is … are
those of…. (Loss of words)
[24:59]Luke: We have been seeing a growing trend among our patients that have undergone elective
procedures like breast argumentation or face argumentation……. (Loss of words)
[24:59]Luke: We have been seeing a growing trend among our patients ……… (Stops)
[25:03]Luke: We have been seeing a growing trend among our patients that have undergone elective
procedures like face procedures or breast procedures.
(Trams directs to start again)
[25:38]Luke: We have been seeing a growing trend among our patients that have undergone elective
procedures such as face or breasts procedures.
(Tram asks the next question)
[27:11]Luke: So the reason why a lot of these patients are coming to see us is that hyperbaric oxygen
therapy has been proven to drastically reduce recovery times and improve appearance of scars in
elective procedures.
(Tram Directs)
[27:38]Luke: For examples we have seen patients that have undergone laser facial treatments and its
procedures results in a lot of redness and scoring and making people very uncomfortable to be seen in
the public. But we can cut that recovery time almost by half, and get them outside seeing their friends
and public again faster.
[28:04]Luke: And enjoying the results of their treatment.
(Tram asks about Luke’s mum)
[29:24]Luke: I had a very close personal friend who had one of the laser procedures done on her face
and she said, you know, don’t worry about it am going to look great, and my first response was, when?
But after she went under the ……. But after she underwent hyperbaric oxygen therapy the results were
fantastic. And she couldn’t have been happier with what happened inside the chamber. She couldn’t
have been happier with results of her procedure.
(Tram discuss the next question)
[31:00]Luke: So one of the common breast procedures that we see here is a breast lift. And one of the
main concerns for these patients is the amount of scaring and the recovery time, both of which can be
greatly greatly helped by hyperbaric oxygen therapy. We have been reduce the scaring reduce the
inflammation and look their best faster.
(Tram interrupts)
[13:29]Luke: How we can reduce the inflammation, improve the scaring and make them heal faster is
that continuous hyperbaric oxygen therapy actually causes your body to mobilize more of its stem cells
which are the basic building blocks for recovery. So having more stem cells circulating the body its going
to allow you to heal from a procedure like breast lift much quicker.
(Tram discuss about healing quicker)
[32:19]Luke: Two of the main benefits to hyperbaric oxygen therapy in conjunction with basic therapy
there is a drastic reduction in the appearance of scars and obviously much faster recovery time.
(Tram asks Luke to say it again)
[32:45]Luke: The two main benefits of Hbond in conjunction with plastic surgery are a drastic reduction
in repairs of scars and obviously much faster recovery time.
(Tram discuss about patients procedures)
[33:36]Luke: If you are planning to get an elective procedure but you are a great candidate for
treatment here at hyperbaric….. (Starts again)
[33:42]Luke: If you are planning on receiving electrotherapy …… (Loss of words)
[33:54]Luke: I you have an upcoming surgery or procedure, then you are a great candidate for
hyperbaric oxygen therapy, because research has shown that after 20 hours you have over 800%
increase in amount of circulating stem cells. This is going to allow the outcome of the surgery to be great
and improved.
(Tram discusses)
[34:29]Luke: So the same reason that hyperbaric oxygen therapy is beneficial, before a surgery, is the
same reason you often see doctors or other providers prescribe nutritional supplements and other
things like that to help prepare the body for the trauma is just about to undergo.
(Tram Advices)
[34:53]Luke: Even if you just had surgery or procedure you are still a great candidate for hyperbaric
because wound healing is actually one of the fourteen approved uses by the FDA for hyperbaric oxygen
therapy. So although elective procedures are not covered under insurance but we can ensure you treat
the wounds off label if ordered by the physician.
(Tram advices Luke to repeat)
[35:33]Luke: Even if you just had surgery or procedure then you are still a great candidate for Hbond
because wound healing is one of the approved uses for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. But in the case of an
elective procedure obviously it’s not going to be covered by insurance so treating here off label to get
that healing faster is like a much better option.
(Tram advices to do it again)
[36:29]Luke: So even if you just had surgery or some kind of an elective procedure, you are still a great
candidate for hyperbaric oxygen therapy because ……. (Stops)
[36:39]Luke: Because it accelerates the healing process by….. (Loss of words)
[36:47]Luke: Because it accelerates the healing process through the mechanism of ……. (Loss of words)
(Tram Discusses)
[37:27]Luke: So don’t worry if you were trying to get hyperbaric oxygen therapy before your surgery,
because it is still approved wound healing treatment…… (Loss of words)
(Tram, try again)
[38:02]Luke: So even if you just had surgery or an elective procedure, you are still a great candidate of
hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Because its proven to be a great wound healing treatment.
(Tram asks a question)
[38:25]Luke: Even if you had a procedure a couple of months ago or weeks or months ago, you will still
be a good candidate for hyperbaric oxygen therapy because some of that information, the healing
process is going to take a lot of time and that is something we can definitely help speed up inside the
chamber.
(Tram Discusses)
[38:53]Luke: Even if it’s a couple of weeks or months ago hyperbaric oxygen therapy can still be used to
address the issue of the appearance of unruly scars.
(Tram Discusses)
[39:26]Luke: Even if its been a few weeks or months since the surgery, hyperbaric oxygen therapy can
still …… (Lost of words)
[39:50]Luke: Even if it’s been a few weeks or months since your procedure, you are still a good
candidate for hyperbaric oxygen therapy because it is a useful tool in reducing the appearance of
unwanted scars. That’s possible because that scaring exists as a result of inflammation and hyperbaric
oxygen therapy is the most effective anti-inflammatory agent there is.
(Tram Discusses about scars with Luke)

(Tram Discusses with Luke on what to say next)

[01:27]Luke: Hi, am Luke Gourmet, president of ATX hyperbaric, We are a standalone hyperbaric oxygen
therapy here in Houston Texas. One of the main questions that we receive from both physicians and
patients is simply how does this hyperbaric oxygen therapy work. So I am here today to talk to you
about the science behind hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
(Tram directs)
[02:18]Luke: the first point to understand is how you breathe under normal conditions. At one
atmosphere of pressure is at normal pressure every breath you take is worth 20% oxygen, those oxygen
molecules attach…. (Stopped by Tram)
[02:45]Luke: The first point to understanding hyperbaric oxygen therapy is understanding how
breathing works at normal pressure. At one atmosphere of pressure which we are at right now every
breath is worth 20% oxygen, that is oxygen molecules that attach to red blood cells that are then carried
around the body, however, if there is inflammation which usually results from an injury or illness that
blood flow is restricted therefore oxygen cannot reach the cells that it needs to reach for them to do
their job. So hyperbaric oxygen therapy works by putting the body in under pressure and breathing a
higher concentration of oxygen so at pressures of 1.3 atmospheres all the way to two atmospheres
which is what we treat at. Here at ATX hyperbaric. You can actually cause the oxygen molecule to
dissolve directly into the plasma, the liquid that carries the red blood cells around. And can also dissolve
directly into the tissue despite the inflammation. So even if you have an inflammatory response going on
from your injury or your illness we can put oxygen back into those cells and get the healing process
started much quicker.
(Tram discusses)
[05:04]Luke: The first point of understanding hyperbolic oxygen therapy is understanding how we
breathe under normal conditions at one atmospheric pressure that we are we are right now about 20%
of every breathe is oxygen those oxygen molecules attach to red blood cells and then carried
throughout the body to provide the cells with the fuel they need to do their job.
[05:30]Luke: The second point to understand is when you have an inclusion or a block blood flow, a
restriction in the blood flow …… (Gibberish)
[05:54]Luke: The second point to understand is what happens when you have a restriction in blood flow,
when blood flow is restricted to the inflammation which can happen as a result of injury or disease or
illness you lose the ability for those blood cells to carry oxygen to certain cells and then you have what is
called apoptosis when cells die off and that is not good for you.
(Tram discusses)
[07:27]Luke: So the second point to understanding hyperbaric oxygen therapy is understanding what
happens when there is a restriction in the blood flow. So say you break a leg, when that happens you are
going to have inflammation and you are going to have a loss of blood flow to certain areas of your leg
which will die off, those cells will die in order to heal that part of your leg you will have to grow new
blood vessels in there to get the oxygen paths restored, in order for your body to undergo normal body
healing process.
(Tram discusses with Luke)
[08:05]Luke: The second point to understanding hyperbaric oxygen therapy is understanding what
happens when there is a restriction in blood flow. So say you break a leg that causes inflammation which
restricts blood flow and the reason it takes long to heal ……. (Emphasizes on that point with Tram)
[08:58]Luke: The second point to understanding hyperbaric oxygen therapy, is understanding what
happens when there is a restriction in blood flow…. (Gibberish)
[09:09]Luke: the second point to understanding hyperbaric oxygen therapy, is understanding what
happens when there is a restriction to the blood flow, be it surgery, injury or illness …… Sorry…
(Tram directs)
[09:34]Luke: For example when you break a leg, you do have a restriction in blood flow, which is what
causes swelling, inflammation, and eventually cell death called apoptosis…… (Pauses)
(Tram directs further)
[10:26]Luke: When you break a leg, there is a restriction in blood flow, which prevents oxygen from
getting to the cell that needs it. Which is why it takes so long for that injury to heal.
(Tram directs)
[10:40]Luke: For example when you break a leg, there is a restriction in blood flow which prevents
oxygen from getting to the cells that need it which is why that takes so long to heal.
(Tram Advices on the next point)
[11:00]Luke: That leads us to the third point which is how hyperbaric oxygen, can help that injury, under
pressure oxygen dissolves into a liquid much like a soda……
(Tram and Luke discuss about that point)
[12:00]Luke: This leads us to our third point which is how hyperbaric oxygen can help these
conditions…….
(Tram directs further)
[12:16]Luke: This leads us to our third point…….
(Tram leads on how to answer)
[12:43]Luke: This leads us to our third point of hyperbaric oxygenation, Under pressure breathing……
(Luke explains his point)
[12:55]Luke: So this leads us to our third point, Hyperbaric Oxygenation, Hyperbaric oxygen works by
putting a body under an increased atmospheric pressure, higher than 1.3 atmospheres all the way to
two atmospheres. you also breath a high concentration of oxygen, so instead of 20% now you are
breathing 95-100% oxygen, under pressure, this greater concentration oxygen is able to dissolve into
your plasma and into the tissue surrounding that blood flow restriction so the blood flow restriction is
no longer an obstacle to be getting oxygen to that tissue, which allows the healing process to get started
much faster.
(Tram discusses)
[13:47]Luke: And finally our fourth point is the benefits that the results………
(Lost of words)
[14:32]Luke: Our fourth point is the development of neurovascular regeneration…..
(Tram advices)
[14:38]Luke: Our fourth and final point in understanding hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the development
of neurovascular regeneration…….
(Tram directs)
[14:51]Luke: Our fourth and final point to understanding hyperbaric oxygen therapy is neurovascular
regeneration, which comes as a result of the therapy.
(Tram asks Luke to say it again)
[15:05]Luke: Our fourth and final point to understanding hyperbaric oxygen therapy is neurovascular
regeneration…… (Loss of words and discuss with Tram)
[15:40]Luke: Our fourth and final point to understanding hyperbaric oxygen therapy is neurovascular
regeneration.
(Tram asks a question)
[15:53]Luke: Neurovascular regeneration is the growth on new blood cells as a result……..
(Discusses with Tram)
[16:12]Luke: Neurovascular regeneration is the growth of new blood vessels as a result of this increased
oxygen concentration.
(Tram directs)
[16:30]Luke: Neurovascular regeneration is the growth of new blood vessels as a result this increased
oxygen concentration.
(Tram asks Luke to say it again)
[16:41]Luke: Neurovascular regeneration is the growth of new blood vessels as a result of the increased
oxygen saturation.
(Tram Directs)
[17:16]Luke: Neurovascular regeneration is the development of new blood vessels as a result of this
increased oxygen concentration……
(Luke explains)
[17:32]Luke: Neurovascular regeneration is the development of new blood ………………………
(Starts again)
[17:50]Luke: Neurovascular regeneration is the growth and development of new blood vessels as a
result of this increased oxygen saturation of tissue.
(Tram directs)
[18:10]Luke: Here is how it works…..
(Tram directs)
[18:19]Luke: Increased atmospheric pressure forces the oxygen to dissolve into tissue and allows new
blood vessels to grow.
(Tram directs)
[18:34]Luke: Plasma can carry 100% oxygen under pressure.
(Tram directs)
[18:43]Luke: And these new blood cells flow into this new blood vessels.
(Tram directs)
[19:07]]Luke: Extra oxygen is diffused into the tissue into these new blood vessels.
(Tram Directs)
[19:15]Luke: And that is neuron……..
[19:20]Luke: And that is neurovascular regeneration.
(Cameraman directs)
[19:28]Luke: And that is neurovascular regeneration.
(Tram directs)
[19:46]Luke: 21% oxygen diffuses into the surrounding tissues from the red blood cells.
(Tram directs)
[20:02]Luke: so here it’s how it works……
(Tram directs)
[20:08]Luke: So here is what happens.
(Tram directs)
[20:14]Luke: Tissues break down due to lack of oxygen
(Tram directs)
[20:19]Luke: Red blood cells….. (Stops)
(Tram directs)
[21:03]Luke: Plasma or fluids still flows to the damaged blood vessel.
(Tram directs)
[21:09]Luke: However red blood cells block off the blood flow
(Tram directs)
[21:14]Luke: However red blood cells block off the blood flow.
(Tram directs)
[21:32]Luke: However red blood cells block off the blood flow, preventing the oxygen from reaching the
other side of the affected area.
(Tram directs)
[21:54]Luke: So here is what happens there is a restriction due to the injury, disease and illness.
(Tram directs)
[22:03]Luke: So here is what happens there is a restriction of blood flow due to the injury, disease and
illness.
(Tram directs)
[22:17]Luke: So here is what happens blood flow is a restricted because of injury disease or a blood clot.
(Tram directs)
[22:51]Luke: So here is what happens there is a restriction in blood flow due to injury, illness, blood clot,
etcetera.
(Tram directs again)
[23:04]Luke: So here is how it works.
(Tram directs)
[23:15]Luke: The restriction of the blood vessel reduces blood and oxygen flow.
(Tram directs)
[22:33]Luke: Under pressure the distance the oxygen can diffuse into the tissue is pretty increased.
(Tram directs)
[23:41]Luke: and Plasma can carry 100% oxygen under pressure allowing oxygen molecules to reach
areas of tissue that could not reach.
(Tram discusses)

Tram explains how to answer questions.

[00:28]Emmy: My name is Emmy Clairol.
[00:33]Ginger: And am Ginger Gladwin
[00:35]Emmy: And we first met a doctor at belly view which is right out the road back in 1991 and since
that year we have known each other.
(Tram asks Ginger to answer the same question)
[01:11]Ginger: Emmy and I met in 1990 while we were teaching school and we have known each other
since then.
(Tram asks a question and explains how she wants it answered)
[01:35]Emmy: I was working for a builder and I fell off the ladder an hit my head on the floor.
[01:55]Ginger: Emmy was working in an independent builder on a project in an extension ladder where
she was on, the extension on the ladder broke, it’s what we have been told, and she fell back and hit the
back of her head on a concrete floor. And she immediately got up and we were sitting on a sofa with
when somebody found her and she was okay at the time but quickly became less able to be understood
and started having symptoms and they called an ambulance and that is when she slipped into a comma
shortly after that. Which resulted in the severe brain injury, this occurred in February of 2012. So it’s just
about six years ago.
[02:41]Tram: What was the journey like after the injury?
[02:46]Emmy: I don’t remember being in the hospital after for about a month and then I went to
(Inaudible) we have (Inaudible) in the Houston area … aah… (Pauses) I have always been very
independent but no longer could I take care of my own self, I have to rely on other people to do those
things for me.
[03:45]Ginger: She was… she was sent to Brian Texas and so she was in hospital for a month there and
then transported back to the Houston area to Texas neuron for three months and then she was moved
from there to quota springs for six months. So didn’t come home for ten months after the injury and the
she began an outpatient. she was able to do nothing for herself for a very very long time and that is just
six years ago, we have had incredible progress with all the alternative therapies that we have
investigated in traditional therapy and support from family and friends it have made it a little easier
journey for us.
[04:33]Emmy: Yes
[04:35]Tram: What led to the investigation and why was the information not readily ready for you?
[04:40]Ginger: When she was still in inpatient I could say that she was making progress but I just wanted
to see what else was out there besides traditional therapy. And I started investigating on alternative
therapy and I came upon a video that Dr. Hansen Louisiana had put out about a boy he had seen that
had a brain injury and he had used hyperbaric with him and he had seen huge progress and this boy had
been given no hope of any recovery and when his mom found Dr. Hansen that’s when they started
seeing all this recovery. That was back in 2012, I contacted Dr. Hansen office and found out the price
and so for five years we have been saving the money to be able to do the hyperbaric. And then once we
had the money we were in Houston area and believe it or not there is no place in the Houston area
outside of the hospital with a chamber. We were have to be going to Louisiana or to go to Colorado
(Emmy adds in) to go and have it done and then we went back to the Houston area and on the flight just
before we moved back on the treatnow.org website which is up for most of the veterans and it lists all
the hyperbaric facilities in the area and this one popped up so, when we lived here before it wasn’t here.
And so we got back here and we were very excited, came to the tour and talked to Luke and that is why
we are here.
[06:18]Emmy: Yes we were very excited because of Ginger she did the research and was able to find,
look for this place for us.
[06:39]Tram: How did the price compare?
[06:51]Ginger: well its different once you got Dr. Hansen they are in its uhm…. anyway it was…. its less
to come here than for us to obviously have to travel anywhere also because we were have to pay for
rooming and food and all like that. the one out on Colorado was actually just about the same price as
coming here just to see the doctor there as well as we do not, but obviously this was closer and better
choice for us.
[07:28]Emmy: But we don’t get here other expenses such as in Colorado too.
[07:38]Tram: Was the insurance covered or?
[07:40]Emmy and Ginger: No
[07:42]Emmy: We relied on donations from my friends and family. To help with the expenses here.
[07:57]Tram: So you say that you insurance does not cover this treatment?
[08:03]Emmy: Insurance does not cover my treatment.
[08:09]Ginger: Insurance doesn’t cover the treatment for Emmy because of keeping the brain injury,
hyperbaric is covered by some insurance but very specific reasons but brain injury is not one.
[08:25]Emmy: No
[08:26]Tram: (directs further)
[08:39]Ginger: We are very thankful that we found ATX hyperbaric as a standalone heart chamber
because of, we were have to look into the hospital situation which would not have accepted Emmy
because of her brain injury plus would have cost tens of thousands of dollars and since this has been a
blessing for us financially and how ATX has worked with us.
[09:06]Tram: Amazing. Let’s talk about before and after?
[09:29]Emmy: Yes, I see a neurologist here in Houston and he did not want to prescribe hyperbaric, at
first when I came back to here in…..
[09:54]Ginger: After having the treatment
[09:55]Emmy: In December after having treatment he told us we are on the way of my improvement.
from the previous visit and he asked if we did and what was I doing and I told him I was going to
hyperbaric, then he wanted to know more about it. Because of the pressure and asked him about
hyperbaric and he said no why don’t they find him and now he does and that is a medical doctor.
(Tram directs)
[10:51]Ginger: When we first with Emmy’s….. When I first rode up to Emmy’s neurologist, he said let’s
keep thinking about it and its very expensive, science isn’t behind it. When we asked him… his office if
we could get a prescription which we needed to come here they said no, they just didn’t believe in it
enough I guess to write the prescription for us so we were able to get a prescription from an entire
practicing neurologist, who did believe in it and does believe in it. and he encouraged us to do it uhm….
when we went back to see the same doctor the neurologist a medical neurologist he noted changes this
positive changes and he asked what she has been doing and we talked about the hyperbaric and at that
time he said he had many patients that has been asking about it and so he was very interested and very
excited to see what changes, positive changes that resulted from it with Emmy he asked were going and
where it was and we gave him as much information as he wanted. So hopefully it’s becoming better
known in the medical community. I think it’s starting to break through that ice, when I first started
looking five years ago it was unheard of you know except from a few experimental places and so we are
hoping that through our situation and everyone else like Emmy we were hoping that it may benefit
some others in their office.
[12:21]Tram: What made you research?
[12:33]Emmy: If you ever heard of (Inaudible) (They laugh) Well I am hearted and I was going to
research for alternative treatments for head injuries.
(Tram directs)
[12:59]Ginger: In Emmy’s case we were never given a prognosis which I would have really appreciated it
that she will never do this, she will never do that, which gave me hope that she could improve if it gets
better, that being said I wasn’t seeing the kind of progress that I was hoping to see from the medical
community and through the traditional therapies. I was not raised in the medical community so my
mind set was let’s look outside, investigate what else is out there, when she was first in inpatient they
asked me what my goals were for her and I said for her to be a hundred percent and they looked at me
like I was crazy, and I thought well, you know what it may not be today but we are going to get there
and so that was my mind set for investigating and not wanting to leave anything unturned. uhmm when
it came to hyperbaric I have a cousin who has two children they are in the arches spectrum and they had
done hyperbaric and they had seen humongous changes they did one…. one of their children they did
over this summer and the teachers didn’t know that they were doing it and when he returned to school
the special educations teacher said what in the world did you do because he was blowing the test scores
out I mean he wasn’t even the same child. And so that gave us hope and so I had that background in my
family to know that this was a possibility in it, this could help so that is where the investigations started.

(Tram Directs and asks how was it like before treatment)

[00:29]Ginger: Emmy has problems with balance she has been in PT since 2012….
(Tram interrupts with further directives)
[01:05]Ginger: Emmy has had trouble with balance……
(Tram interrupts)
[01:41]Ginger: Right before we started hyperbaric Emmy was having difficulty with balance with
the (Inaudible), with breathing deeply, low energy, memory problems, short term and long
term. And she was having difficulty with speech and following. After hyperbaric started in the
first week I noticed a change in her voice quality it went from being strangled and high to back
down to almost a normal level. Her breathing improved and also she noticed her short term and
long term memory improvements. After a couple of weeks of doing it then we started noticing
big change in her balance, when she was using the locker she was more stable and being able to
use the locker and a lot more confident in everything, more freely able willing to try new things
where before she had gotten to where she didn’t want to take a risk doing things whether, ….
uhm…. can’t give any examples but, and also play support where she was able to play the
harmonica for the first time without feeling dizzy, after she started the hyperbaric, the changes
in her speech were noted by her speech therapist as improvement in her processing speed of
speech but also cognitively, the ENT he was new to us and I thought he didn’t know what he was
looking for she has had this in almost 5 years this constant twitch around her vocal cord, its
gone. One vocal cord is slightly….. its slower its sluggish its was paralyzed at one time prior to
the hyperbaric, it’s now moving better and it had been bowed and it is now straight, which
allows for her to be able to swallow better and uhm…. also then the function neurologist that
we were seeing admittedly noticed the change in her balance. And he has been working with
her on that and Uhm…. as he said he couldn’t for sure thing to say it was hyperbaric but it was
the only thing that they had changed and to see such a difference in that….. In the standing
balance honestly it was pretty impressive.
[04:06]Tram: What does this mean in your personal quality life?
[04:12]Emmy: (Confused)
[0419]Ginger: But for me in her personal quality life is I am not having to do much. She is more
independent at home, she is more confident when, this is an example for balance, getting in and
out of the shower where I used to have to physically, my hands on her to make sure she was
okay even using the grab bar she’s now able to get in and out with me just standing thereby just
for safety reasons, where we were having a lot of pouring things we were having you were
having difficult with all the shaking because of the ataxia. it has gotten much better too, she can
pour water from one container to another without spilling as much, for me ahmm… its been
easier(Laughs)
[05:06]Emmy: And I am transferring clothes from the machine to the drier by myself. And am
able to go to bed and get up, and go to the bathroom by myself, am able to remember things
that I used to do not. I remember better than Ginger.
[05:44]Ginger: She reminds me of the things I forget all the time, if I want to remember, I just
say Emmy remind me (Laughs)
[05:54]Emmy: My speech therapist found out which seizure we were working on and (Inaudible)
and i was able to read the sentence say more I think I did the best than I used to before
hyperbaric. And I can talk while walking, I used to, I couldn’t do that before.
[06:36]Ginger: She had to do one thing not together, she had to concentrate on walking,
concentrate on talking he was able to do these two things simultaneously.
[06:47]Emmy: And, it was the second week, we walked into hyperbaric I saw something on,
what was it? the wall, and my friend from where I grew up from, she if probably 500 miles away,
I remembered that she used to collect (Inaudible) because I saw he picture in the (inaudible) so
that night I called and talked to her and she said, yes (Inaudible) you do, hyperbaric made me
remember those little bitty things. Before I never thought of things.
[08:00]Tram: Last question, would you recommend hyperbaric option therapy?
[08:06]Ginger: 100% yes, …… (Tram interrupts)
[08:10]Ginger: We would 100% hands down uhmm… recommend hyperbaric to anybody we
know that everybody’s story s different and that all injuries, brain injuries are different, but for
us its been a blessing and we have seen so much improvement.
[08:33]Tram: Done. Beautiful. Thank you very much.
