The major problems and their cause were as follows:

1. Noise

One of the main issues that came up while figuring out what was affecting the
performance of the employees was the amount of noise pollution in the office
because of its location. The office was located near the Delhi airport. Due to
continuous arrival and departure of flights from the busy airport there was a
lot of noise generated in the office, which used to break the concentration of
the people working there.
The noise was affecting the calls they were making continuously. It was
difficult to hear or to be heard whenever an airplane would arrive or depart.
Work was difficult even for the accountants. While dong the calculations the
noise used to break their concentration and thus result in poor performance.

2. No positive interaction

All the employees were questioned about the reasons behind their degrading
performances and the second most worrisome issue that came up was the lack
of positive social interaction amongst the employees. Lack of positive
interaction commonly occurs due to overload of work, which keeps the
employees too busy to talk or connect on a personal level. This often results in
organizational stress. The hostile work environment disturbs the will of the
employees’ to work. Work becomes extremely stressful and there is no form
of relaxation. Gradually the employees could feel friction amongst each other.
It was also resulting in negative competition.

3. Poor lighting

At the office most of the work was being done on computers, digitally.
Therefore, not much attention was given to proper lighting for paperwork. All
of the employees, who were involved with paperwork like verification of
documents, maintaining worksheets and so on, were extremely troubled. They
complained of usual headache due to straining their eyes so much. This further
caused them to be more irritable and impatient, not only at the office but also
at their homes. The poor lighting was hampering their visibility majorly,
which was clearly affecting their work and performance.

4. Zero incentives to the employees

The environment of the office was already hostile on top of that the employer-
employee relationship was also sour. There were no positive incentives given
to the employers, which would motivate them to work. There were no goals
set for the promotion of the employees. Along with the unfriendly
environment, this resulted in friction and negative competition amongst the
employees.
Some of them also said that their boss was not at all approachable, making it
difficult for them to talk about their issues in the office.
