Use a bulletin board at least 3 feet by 4 fet for a class of approximately 25. Two possible ideas are as follows. Have classroom members put their names on cards and arrange these in a circular or oval shape. Then participants can draw lines between their names and the names of each other person. They write each commonality along the appropriate line. (Or participants can record their commonalities on computer address labels where they write both their names across the top half of the label and across the bottom half they \write the characteristic they had in common. See drawing below for an example of a sheet of computer labels where a student named Hannah has recorded some of her commonali- ties, The bulletin board is set up like the example above except that names are connected to cach other with separate pieces of yarn. Although this is time consuming, the results are very satisfying and feel genuinely like a web. ‘Students then take each of their labels and fold them over the appropriate pieve of yarn, connecting their name with the appropriate friend, with the commonality showing, See illustration below for how Hannah affixed her commonality with Dylan to the correct piece of yarn. qouueyy 79 ur Ke, qeuuey 7 uelk Putting on Shows Writing Stories syn 7 YeuUEH vjequed 7p yeuUeH, Swimming Dresses PAIAY 3p YeuUEH youuryy 3 UBIO Cookie Dough Ice Cream Summer Camp Dylan Writing Stories
