‘This experience is more powerfal in building a sense of community in your classroom
i you create a bulletin board with the results. Use a bulletin board at least 3 feet by 4 fet
for a class of approximately 25. Two possible ideas are as follows.
Have classroom members put their names on cards and arrange these in a circular or
oval shape. Then participants can draw lines between their names and the names of each
other person. They write each commonality along the appropriate line.
(Or participants can record their commonalities on computer address labels where
they write both their names across the top half of the label and across the bottom half they
\write the characteristic they had in common. See drawing below for an example of a sheet
of computer labels where a student named Hannah has recorded some of her commonali-
ties, The bulletin board is set up like the example above except that names are connected
to cach other with separate pieces of yarn. Although this is time consuming, the results
are very satisfying and feel genuinely like a web.
