OUT BOUND TRAINING

The OBT (OUT BOUND TRAINING)is an INNOVATIVE of our GIM as part

induction and soft skill development . The concept of using the outdoors as a tool
in management training was first developed in 1940’s by a philosopher Dr.Kurt
Hahn. The outdoors has many lessons for the city people which will enhance their
Personal and group thresholds. The benefits of OBT is a building up of
interpersonal relationships, trust and bonding. The main aim of OBT is taking a
group of people away from their normal environment into the outdoors, and
placing a new, unfamiliar set of challenges before them. The Program works on
the Principle that when a team is kept together in strange place, where they have
to fend for themselves and meet their challenges together.

OBT had given a memorable experience to me. We comes to know about

ourselves and about others mentality. By this, we can improve the best qualities
and reduce the negatives in us, and also helps in dealing with other people.

In OBT we have participated in many activities like-Meditation; Balancing

the balloon in the hands; Passing the marble from one person to other by the help
of wooden piece, without touching the marble with our fingers; Walking on the
sticks, carried by people from two ends; Rope walk by the help of a stick; Fire
walk; Aerobics; Swimming; Rain dance; Treasure hunt; Stand in a row and tie our
legs with our neighbors legs and tie a ribbon around the eyes. One person will be
there to guide the people to move by giving instructions; etc.

In one way, OBT is related to Management. In the training period, we

compared the activities to Management. It can be clearly explained as follows.

Passing the marble from one person to other, it should not fall and it not touches
by our fingers. It shows the time management, understanding among the
employees.

Trust Event---Walking on the sticks, carried by people from two ends. It shows the
team work, trust the people in the group.

Treasure hunt—By this, we comes to know that when we are entering into a
unknown place or to a new environment/organization, first we need the
information about that place. The rules and regulations about an organization.
We have to fulfill our responsibilities. The work should be done within the given
time.

Meditation, aerobics, swimming and dancing gives the pleasant mind, good physic
and health.

Rope walk---We have to move on the rope, by balancing the stick and our way. It
shows how management should be done by taking all the cases in the balanced
way. It should reach the target by maintaining a proper way, even the distractions
allowed.

The Innovations I found in OBT are: Motivating the people, Mingling with
each other, communication and analytical skills, adjusting to any type of
environment, team work, trust the team members and more experiential
learning.
