In 2013, the 300th anniversary of the Peace Treaty of Utrecht will be celebrated
in a grand way

On 11 April 1713, the Peace Treaty of Utrecht was concluded; a treaty that ended almost two centuries
of war which expanded throughout the world. Prior to this historic event, for eighteen months Utrecht
had functioned as the host, partner and stage for an international company that determined Europe’s
future. During the negotiations, festive and cultural events took place that contributed to the dialogue
between the various cultures. This was the first peace ever to be realised by diplomacy, with thanks to
Utrecht’s hospitality.
