    Continental drift theory proposed that continents move over time. Fossil evidence supported this idea by showing that certain fossil groups were found together on continents that were now separated by oceans. Cutting out the continental land masses along the edges of their continental shelves revealed that they fit together like puzzle pieces, providing further evidence for continental drift.
