BHS Math I Remediation Plan

Plan Overview:
The Math Department will focus on enhancing the instruction our NC Math I struggling learners
receive during the remediation period. Our NC Math I Remediation Team consists of Mrs.
Linda Stephens, Mrs. Angela Glugla, Mrs. Vicki Pritko, Ms. Kelly Dennis and Ms. Morgan
Pearce. Student groups will be created by analyzing available data and will be grouped based on
demonstrated academic needs. These groups will rotate between our Remediation Team teachers
on a weekly basis. Members will be assigned remediation sections based on benchmark data
analysis for strengths with specific content standards. Students identified as “Bubble Students”
will remediate 23 times this semester. Other Remediation Team members will work with the
students who demonstrate satisfactory performance on the benchmarks assessments. These
students will complete enrichment activities which will supplement their classroom instruction.
Together, we will work to ensure our students are receiving the best instruction possible by
tailoring to their individual needs as we work to surpass our goal this upcoming school year.

Plan Highlights:
● All students, regardless of classification as “Bubble Student,” will receive high quality
supplemental instruction either as remediation or enrichment once during the week
through their regularly scheduled remediation period for their NC Math I class.
● “Bubble Students” will be pulled one additional time each week according to the
schedule provided below. Remediation Team teachers will alternate leading sessions
depending on their strengths and weaknesses in the content areas. During the “Pull-Out
Remediation Sessions,” teachers who would otherwise have planning time during the
remediation period will host small groups of struggling learners for additional practice,
assistance and instruction.
● Remediation sessions will focus on enhancing skills related Algebraic expressions and
manipulating Functions. A variety of instructional techniques will be implemented and
include, but are not limited to, direct instruction, educational games, technology-based
instruction and peer tutoring and teaching.
● NC Math I PLC’s will meet on the first and third Friday of every month during Club time
in Ms. Pearce’s room. The second and fourth Friday of every month will be reserved for
additional remediation sessions for our Bubble Students. PLC’s meeting will take place
during second lunch from 11:50 am to 12:20 pm in Ms. Pearce’s room.
