Second Observation for Science Endorsement
 The lesson went really well, and I was happy with how engaged and excited the students
were.
 For the engage part, I changed the book, this was the suggested engage activity in the
Picture-Perfect book, to a 30 second video about ice melting. That was the perfect hook
for my pre-k students with special needs. That video evoked many comments and
questions.
 Food is always a great motivator, so using Popsicles for the explore part was a great idea
to get the students interested, focused, and on task.
 Using pictures to fill-out the questions for part two, on the student Popsicle Soup Sheet,
was the right support and level for my students. In other words, I modified the task:
instead of writing the answers, the students glued pictures which were prepared ahead of
time.
 Few of my students did not get the liquid demonstration and still did not know what
liquid and solid is. However, this was the very first time I introduced the words or
concepts. In the future, I will introduce the vocabulary ahead of time through play and
natural settings.
 Another change I will make, is use a goldfish to represent solid rather than a glue stick to
show that the shape stayed the same. I can then ask “did the goldfish change to a shape
of a horse?”.
 Few of the students got too anxious while waiting for the Popsicles to melt. Next time, I
will allow them to go and check on their Popsicles rather than wait till end of lesson. It
will serve as part of the science experiment to see how long it takes for something to
melt and help with them staying focused on the parts being taught during circle.
