Carmelina Vargas Continues to Raise Awareness for Cancer Research with the
American Cancer Society

Performances for the LGBT Community and Making Strides

New York, NY / September 12, 2010 - After a successful performance and fundraising effort at the 10th
Annual Relay For Life of Harlem, recording artist and breast cancer survivor turned advocate Carmelina
Vargas continues to raise awareness for cancer research with two more performances for the American
Cancer Society; 2010 Relay For Life of the LGBT Community and Friends on September 25 at the World
Financial Center and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on October 17 at Central Park.

“We were able to raise more than $1,000 for the Harlem relay and so many of my friends, family and fans
came out to support that I jumped at the chance to do another one,” says Carmelina.

After an unanticipated hiatus to beat a (Stage 2) Breast Cancer diagnosis following the release of her
debut album "Morena," Carmelina returns as a true survivor. She has shared her survival story with
Latin Trends Magazine, AllThingsGirl.net and GlobalGrind.com and she will host her own a fundraiser to
benefit American Cancer Society and the Columbia University Medical Center at LQ’s in New York City
on October 22, 2010.

"I never let fear inside my heart and learned that I had already beaten breast cancer through a self-test.
My breast cancer diagnosis, surgery and chemotherapy were just stepping stones to my new birth as a
stronger, more compassionate spirit. LOVE conquers all,” shares Carmelina.

About The American Cancer Society Relay For Life

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities
across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved
ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school,
park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have
a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are
overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
