 ABOUT THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA)
The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest
multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15 engineering
disciplines and gives engineers a global platform from which to share
professional interest. IEI has membership strength of more than 0.7
million. Established in 1920, with its headquarters at 8, Gokhale
Road, Kolkata - 700020, IEI has served the engineering fraternity for
over nine decades. In this period of time it has been inextricably linked
with the history of modern-day engineering.
In 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains the only
professional body in India to be accorded this honour. Today, its quest

IEI conducts Section A & B Examinations in different Engineering

equivalent to Degree in appropriate field of Engineering of recognized
Universities of India by the Ministry of Human Resources

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
India is a country where we have more than 130 crore citizens residing
inside its geographical domain. More than 80 million people are still
homeless in our country. So it is high time that we build sustainable
housing for all in a time bound manner.
The Government of India has initiated an ambitious program
“Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Housing for All by 2022”, with a
mandate to provide houses for 2 crore families belonging to the
economically weaker section (EWS) in urban areas by 2022.
Conventional constructional practices will not be able to meet the
demand raised by the housing sector. Therefore, it becomes
imperative for identification and selection of innovative construction
technologies and appropriate building materials to bring economy
and quality in construction.
All India National Workshop on Mass Housing & Rapid ALL INDIA WORKSHOP
Construction supports these efforts by shedding light on the various
prefabricated technologies presently being used in countries such as on
USA, UK, Russia, UAE etc. The technologies to be discussed in this
Workshop may help in providing rapid solutions for Mass Housing
projects which are to taken up under “Housing for All by 2022”.
It is believe that the use of prefabrication in the construction industry
can be an answer to this colossal problem. Moreover, there is need of

greater outreach and advocacy amongst the all stakeholders

regarding the prefabrication technology for the mass housing.
Evolution of a complete ecosystem is required for the implementation
of these technologies. I hope workshop would serve as a useful
repository for all stakeholder involved in planning of urban and rural
housing.
