Oracle Inventory is one of the oracle enterprise application which helps the company to satisfy the
following business needs.
There are mainly 6 Key Flex Fields in oracle inventory and they are as follows.
1) Item flex field: Of all the flex field system item flex field is the most important one which stores all the
information related to items. Owner is Oracle Inventory & used by Inventory, Purchasing, Payables and
Receivables. Dynamics Insert is NO as shown in below Screen Shot.
Go to -> Segments and define respective fields.
Profile Option - OE: item flex field and user can also define OE: Item flex field entry method. (Done in
System Administrator Responsibility)
2) Item Category flex field:
You must design and configure your Item Categories Flex field before you can start defining items since
all items must be assigned to categories. You can define multiple structures for your Item Categories
Flex field, each structure corresponding to a different category grouping scheme. You can then associate
these structures with the categories and category sets you define.
3) Item Catalog flex field:
Owner: is Oracle Inventory, Table: MTL_ITEM_CATALOG_GROUPS, Dynamic Inserts: NO
4) Stock locator flex field.
We can use this flex field when we want to track the locators in inventory & in case if we do not have
inventory implemented or none of the items are not defined with locator control then no need to define
stock locator flex field.
In-case if we want to track particular row, rack, bin indicators for your items you need to configure the
Stock locator flex field.
