assignment. You should also not plagiarise another person’s work as your own.

EVALUATION
This assignment accounts for 60% of the total marks for the course.

ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

PURPOSE
The purpose of this assignment is to enhance learners’ ability to evaluate the internal pay structure
of a profit organisation in Yemen, and to write a journal article review in the area of Compensation
Management.

REQUIREMENT

PART 1:
Choose an internal pay structure of your choice at your organisation or an organisation that you are
familiar with.

PART 2:
Select and read an article in a scholarly journal in the area of Compensation Management, and write
a critical analysis of it. The article to be reviewed must have been published within the past 2 years.
Each student will present his/her analysis for about 5-10 minutes, to be followed by 10-15 minutes
discussion.

QUESTION
PART 1:
a) Describe and illustrate the chosen internal pay structure in terms of levels, differentials, and job-
or person-based approach.

b) Assume that your organisation will open up a new branch in Malaysia next year. As a human
resource manager, how would you determine the internal pay structure that you have chosen in
question (a)?

PART 2:
Write a critical analysis of the chosen article. Use the following questions to guide your analysis:
a) Objectives – What does the article set out to do?
b) Theory – Is there an explicit theoretical framework? If not, are there important theoretical
assumptions?
c) Concepts – What are the central concepts? Are they clearly defined?
d) Argument - What are the central argument? Are there specific hypotheses?
e) Method – What methods are employed to test these hypotheses?
f) Evidence – Is evidence provided? How adequate is it?
g) Values – Are values positions clear or are they implicit?
h) Literature – How does the work fit into the wider literature?
i) Contribution – How well does the work advance our knowledge of the subject?
j) Style – How clear is the author’s language/style/expression?
k) Conclusion – A brief overall assessment.
