The researchers prepared questions wherein the answers are guided by the likert-type scale,

which allow the researchers to interpret the given responses through statistical tools such as

(ANONG TOOOL). Likert-type or frequency scales use fixed choice response formats and are

designed to measure attitudes or opinions. These ordinal scales measure levels of

agreement/disagreement. The purpose of the survey questionnaire is to learn about the opinions

and perspectives of the participants regarding the problem. (Bowling, 1997; Burns, & Grove, 1997)

Data Collection Procedures

The study used survey questionnaires within a group of people to know the stand and

different perspectives of Senior High School students of Batangas State University about the

effects of smartphone use regarding their academic performance .

The distribution of the survey questionnaires was held during the lunch break between

12:00 and 1:00 in the afternoon and after their class around 4:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon of the

chosen students. Each of the respondents answered the survey questionnaire for an estimated time

of 10 minutes, which gives the participants enough time to ponder upon their answers. The whole

process recorded through photo documentation.

The participants were given letters before answering the questionnaire. The letter states the

rights of the participants and informs them that their answers will be confidential. The letter also

asks the permission of the participants about their faces being photographed since it is needed for

data analysis and interpretation.
