Students will identify benefits of using self-control.

Materials:
Self-Control Handouts (Part of “Executive Functioning Lessons & Activities” via
TPT, Pathway 2 Success), Writing Utensil

Procedure:
1. Welcome group back, remind of group norms and confidentiality, check-in
(discuss how time management has been going, lesson from last week).
2. Introduce topic of “Self-Control.” Ask students for ideas or thoughts as to what
this means, looks like, sounds like, etc. Allow time for discussion with one
another.
3. Pass out “Self-Control” handouts with definition and examples. Ask for
volunteers to read.
4. Next have students complete question at the bottom of the second handout –
“What are some ways that you have used self-control this week?” Give time for
students to complete and then ask for volunteers to share. Engage students in
thinking of how their choice affected them and what the consequence was of
utilizing self-control.
5. For further processing, ask students what they think the benefits of using self-
control could include. Allow time for students to discuss with one another and
share ideas.
6. Closing – ask students to think of one way they are going to try to use self-
control over the next week and ask for volunteers to share. Inform students that
there will be a chance to share how that is going during check-in next time.
