¿ Why Graduated Students Do Not Graduate

With A B2 English Level?

Abstract—This document explains and defines what a B2 level
is and why graduated student do not graduate with a B2 level

E NGLISH LEVEL B2 is the fourth level of English in the

Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). At
this level the student is able to independently communicate in
an academic and professional environment in English,
although with a limited range of variation and precision.
II. COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR
LANGUAGES (CEFR).
The Common European Framework of Reference for
Languages (CEFR) is an international standard for describing
language ability. It describes language ability on a six-point
scale, from A1 for beginners, up to C2 for those who have
mastered a language. This makes it easy for anyone involved
in language teaching and testing, such as teachers or learners,
to see the level of different qualifications. It also means that
employers and educational institutions can easily compare our
qualifications to other exams in their country.
The CEFR is a way of describing how well you speak and
understand a foreign language.

III. B2 ENGLISH LEVEL
B2 English level (Upper Intermediate English) is the level
in which the students are capable of understanding the main
ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics,
including technical discussions in his/her field of
specialization. Students have the necessary fluency to
communicate without effort with native speakers.
A. What can you do with a B2 level in English?
A B2 level of English would allow you to function in the

level. If you are B2, it means you are able to:
 Participate in meetings in your area of expertise, if
you have help understanding some points.
Discuss gender issues as they relate to perceptions
of rudeness and cultural norms.
 Talk about your personal finances and give advice
to friends and colleagues about their finances.
 Converse about your personal and professional
lifestyle, including a description of your life at
work.
 Give details of your education, experience,
strengths and weaknesses, and discuss your career
path.
 Speak about what you like to read and make
recommendations about good things to read.
 Use appropriate language in social situations,
including praising and expressing sympathy.

 Deal with relatively complex awkward situations
that arise in social and business contexts.
 Discuss common political situations and the
behavior of politicians.

IV. ¿ WHY GRADUATED STUDENTS DO NOT GRADUATE
WITH A B2 ENGLISH LEVEL?
Many students don’t a B2 English level due to following
causes:
A. I’m not good at learning.
We know some people learn faster than others, but that is
because they crave it more.
One the greatest way of getting fluency English is to truly
and really want it. Unless you have some real severe learning
deficiencies, you are really fully able to learn English. It might
take more dedication and patience, better strategies, study
habits and awareness of your learning style, but to say that
what is holding you back is because you aren´t good at
languages is not a good excuse.
The majority of people who have learned English as a
second language don’t have a gift. They’ve learned through
insistent hard work, avoiding excuses, and overcoming
obstacles that everybody faces.
B. I’m Too Embarrassed to Speak.
When you don’t use it, you lose it. All the embarrassment or
laziness that prevents you from speaking will result in the
forgetting of everything you´ve already learned up until that
point in the process. This is the big problem with a lot of
English schools. They don´t create enough opportunities to
speak in authentic situations.
If you don’t use the basic stuff you learn, no amount of
advanced grammar is going to help you remember what you
superficially learned and forgot because you didn’t apply it.
If you don’t speak, you don’t improve. No matter where
you are, just speak. Whether you are in the classroom, alone in
the shower with friends who speak a little or a lot, or even
foreigners in real life or on Skype, just stop being embarrassed
and OPEN YOUR MOUTH.
C. I Don’t Have the Time
This one the main problem of learning English, you have to
remember that learning English or any other languages takes
times. It does not mean need several hours of free time a day
but dedicate a least 1 hour a day.
The majority of students don not dedicate the enough time
for learning English. Be patient it takes time and it needs
consistency.

D. Lack of Purpose.
Most of the people do not ha a motivation to learn the
language. If the first thing you think about, when you think
about English, it’s going to be a long, slow and painful
process. This leads to a lack of love for what you’re doing and
a mechanical approach.
When people do not have a motivation or inspiration, the
get bored and tired easily and end up quitting.
So what’s the solution? Look for a deeper purpose and
cultivate it. Really look hard at why you are learning and use
that as the source of your inspiration.
E. Lack of Responsibility.
People don’t understand that to learn a language, you need
to take responsibility for your process, and stop placing it
upon the shoulders of the teacher or school or life
circumstances.
People have to realize that the teacher is more of a facilitator
and is only needed to show the student the door. YOU must
be the one to walk through the door by your own will power.
Learning English is not a chip in your brain, but an intimate
process that you must participate in every day. Yes, EVERY
DAY. Excellence is not easily, quickly or even likely to be
achieved with a haphazard twice a week effort.
F. Lack of a Good Plan/Method
People often don’t organize their lives in a way that will
lead to success with their English learning process because
they don’t have a very good plan. They don’t make the time to
learn every day and they don’t investigate what makes a good
school and/or method.
If you’re going to learn English, you need to decide, and
then clarify your motives, investigate well the path to success,
and then set your life up and execute.
People look for quick, easy fixes to problems that they have
to face.
G. Lack of Imagination
Life and English are not two separate things when you’re
using your imagination to learn. The problem is that most
people treat English like a school subject, which is the worst
way to learn a language.
English fluency is not to be attained through memorization
or grammar or book exercises.
Fluency is a dance, an art, a practice and a passion, and the
learner must identify his life experience with the language in
order to flow with her own imagination and learning style, to
give meaning to the process.

Here are a few signs that you’re not using your imagination:
You’re not having fun, you’re not excited to learn, you make
excuses, and you’re not utilizing your natural abilities.
