other relatives, live in Grande,
Guinobatan Albay which is
included in the declared 8-km
danger zone. They were left
with no option but to leave their
abode and temporarily secure
themselves in the evacuation
centers.

flashed in his weary face, made

ticipated in the games and for a
while set aside the fear, loneli-
ness and the anxiety of leaving
their comfort zones. Toys were
also distributed to them by PRC
staff which brought joy to their
hapless faces, somehow send-
ing sparks in their sorrowing
eyes.
The activity endeavors to
make life a little lighter for these
grief-stricken kids and for other
evacuees to feel that the little
diversion can ease the burden
even for a while. Aside from
receiving the toys, the children
also actively participated in the
games, they danced, sing, took
part in drawing activities and
took part in the proper hand
washing lecture given by the
PRC staff to more or less 200
children inside the evacuation
center.
Parents also intently listened
to some lectures, prepping them
up and making them ready just
in case the Mayon Volcano
squirts its perilous lava again.
After the lecture and games, the
kids and the parents were served
with “hot meals on wheels” – a
delicious and freshly cooked
merienda prepared by the staff
of Albay-Legazpi Red Cross
chapter.
For a while, John Rey was
able to smile. Other kids, just
like him can’t stop saying thank
you.
Life at the evacuation is hard.

Exemplary Leadership in Schools

I always believe that
the success of a school
depends upon an
effective and efficient
leader. A School Head
that always do the right
things efficiently and
effectively, can make
the school community move and work harmoniously
towards the realization of the vision, mission and
Core Values of DEPED, has an exemplary leadership
capacity. If everybody in the school supports the
School Head with happy disposition for the reason that
the policies being implemented adhere to the laws of
the country, DepEd Orders and DepEd Memoranda,
innovations and products of research to achieve
quality education, the school becomes an exemplar
school. Everybody feels in their hearts that the change
happening in the school is not only good for the School
Head but for the rest of its stakeholders, especially the
learners. The stakeholders show their support to the
School Head not because they are being forced, but
because it is necessary and the effect surely creates
many wonderful impacts in its beneficiaries.
Exemplary leadership in schools is not only for
School Heads, but for teachers, too. Honing the minds
of our learners towards many aspects, whether they
be physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, etc.
is not easy. It requires commitment and dedication
to service of the teachers. Mostly of the students
learn from the examples set by their teachers. The
total personality of a teacher therefore, has to be a
concrete example for the learners. Teachers have
to lead the students in terms of their way of life-
punctuality, attendance, honesty, diligence, discipline,
morality, love for God, self, family other people and
love for the environment. Like the School Head, their
primary concern is for the realization of DEPED’s
VM and Core Values. Teachers have to always bear
in mind, that teaching is the noblest profession and
so, they have to be noble everyday of their lives.
They are in school to serve in many ways but most
of all, by teaching their students to make them the
best of what they can be. And since they are led by
a School Head, teachers must be good followers
because good leaders are good followers. No matter
how good and knowledgeable the School Head is if
the teachers together with the non-teaching staff, the

place. Conflict if there is any, is resolved

in the district and among the rest of the
schools within the division and beyond in
terms of academic performance, extra-
curricular activities, sports, physical
facilities, support to the programs and
projects of the DEPED and partnership
with other agencies. Collective efforts of
the internal and external stakeholders
towards improvement is evident because
they show a sense of ownership for the
institution. The school with an exemplary
School Head can always provide a
child/student friendly environment. An
environment where the learner could
feel that the school is really a second
home, the teachers his second parents,
his classmates and other students

CITY CONSIDERS TRUCK TERMINAL
TO HELP EASE TRAFFIC IN NAGA
With the issue of traffic congestion still being
one of the top concerns of the City Government
of Naga, Vice Mayor Nelson Legacion had recent-
ly shared some of the measures they have been
working on in the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP)
to help resolve the problem— one of which is the
establishment of a truck terminal, as proposed by
a private entity.
Vice Mayor Nelson Lega-
cion mentioned that the pres-
ence of parked trucks and
container vans in the various
thoroughfares in the city can
be widely observed, particu-
larly along the Magsaysay
Avenue and Diversion Roads.
He further noted that parked
vehicles alongside any thor-
oughfares in the city contribute
further to traffic congestion.
With the proposed truck
terminal, the SP is seeing its
help in easing traffic conges-
tion problem, as well as in
maintaining orderliness in
the city.
Although the construction
of the terminal will be man-
aged by the private entity,
the city government will in-
tervene in matters involving
public interest.
One could be the passage
of an ordinance that will re-
quire truck owners and driv-

truck terminal and not some-

The proponent would
also be required to submit
a Comprehensive Develop-
ment Land Use Plan in the 4.3
