Genre Study – Reading Reflection

Task: Your presentation will need to draw on a number of texts that are exemplars of your genre. While reading, you will
need to take notes and reflect on how your text reflects the genre.

Consider the following questions while you read:

 What are the literary features, or codes and conventions, of the text that lend itself to your genre.
 Are there particular character archetypes, settings, plot points, imagery and language styles?
 Does the author experiment with, subvert, or alter anything that defies your expectation of the genre?
 Are there any embedded or subtle comments on, or reflections of, society’s values?
 What are your own individual thoughts on the section you’ve read? What strikes you as important?
